Cu2+-doped ZnSe quantum dots (ZnSe:Cu) were prepared via a green and simple route, namely the chemical coprecipitation method. Under 365 nm UV excitation, green emission is observed. X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) shows that ZnSe:Cu nanoparticle is cubic zinc blende structure; the transmission electron microscopy (TEM) exhibits that the average diameter of ZnSe:Cu nanocrystals is less than 10 nm. UV-vis spectrophotometer and fluorescence spectrophotometer indicate that ZnSe:Cu nanocrystals have good fluorescence effects.

AbstractColloidal chemistry techniques were used to synthesize ZnO particles in the nanometer size regime. The particle aging kinetics were determined by monitoring the optical band edge absorption and using the effective mass model to approximate the particle size as a function of time. We show that the growth kinetics of the ZnO particles follow the Lifshitz, Slyozov, Wagner theory for Ostwald ripening. In this model, the higher curvature and hence chemical potential of smaller particles provides a driving force for dissolution. The larger particles continue to grow by diffusion limited transport of species dissolved in solution. Thin films were fabricated by constant current electrophoretic deposition (EPD) of the ZnO quantum particles from these colloidal suspensions. All the films exhibited a blue shift relative to the characteristic green emission associated with bulk ZnO. The optical characteristics of the particles in the colloidal suspensions were found to translate to the films.

Novel dazzling green emission has been obtained from graphene oxide nanosheet-embedded Ce3+ and Tb3+:PVA polymer nanocomposites under UV excitation. The green emission of Tb3+ is enhanced by an energy transfer from Ce3+ to Tb3+ and GO NS to Tb3+.

Nickel nanostructures prepared by various methods have received considerable attentions due to their numerous applications. In this study, one-dimensional nickel nanowires (NiNWs) were synthesized by the reduction of nickel (II) chloride in polyol medium. Poly (vinylpyrrolidone) (PVP) served as the surfactant and hydrazine hydrate was used as the reductant. The effects of different experimental parameters, i.e. concentration of Ni2+, volume of N2H4, concentration of PVP and reaction temperature on the formation and morphology of NiNWs were studied. The structure, composition and surface morphology of the materials were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The results showed that the morphology as well as the diameter of NiNWs could be effectively controlled by adjusting parameters of the synthesis process.

Here, we have discovered a X-ray excited long afterglow phosphor β-NaYF4: Tb3+. After the irradiation of X-ray, the green emission can persist for more than 240 h. After 36 h, the afterglow intensity arrived at 0.69 mcd•m-2, which can clearly be observed by naked eyes. Even after 84 h, the afterglow emission brightness still reached 0.087 mcd•m-2. Also, combined with the results of thermoluminescence and photoluminescence, the super long afterglow emission of β-NaYF4: Tb3+ can be ascribed to the tunneling model associated with F centers. More importantly, the super long green afterglow emission of β-NaYF4: Tb3+ has been successfully used as in vivo light source to activate g-C3N4 for photodynamic therapy(PDT)and bacteria destruction. Furthermore, super long persistent luminescence of β-NaYF4: Tb3+ could be repeatedly charged by X-ray for many circulations, which indicates that the phosphors have high photo stability under repeated cycles of alternating X-ray irradiation.

Al2О3:Dy3+ oxides with different colors luminescence were synthesized using precursor technology. The phase composition and crystal structure of the obtained materials were established by X-ray powder diffraction analysis. The excitation and emission spectra, decay curves, thermal quenching of luminescence were studied. Under UV excitation, the phosphors exhibit blue, purplish blue, white emission depending on the concentration of dysprosium and the temperature of annealing of the Al1-xDyx(OH)(HCOO)2 precursor in air.
