Six isomorphous Ln-based MOFs with 3D structures have been synthesized under solvothermal conditions. Dy-MOF (5) shows slow magnetic relaxation behaviors. Eu-MOF (3) can serve as a recyclable sensor towards alkylamines in water systems.

Two isostructural lanthanide-based MOFs are reported. The Eu-MOF exhibiting luminescence properties can be utilized in ion detection and the Dy-MOF displays SMM behavior with an energy barrier (ΔUeff) of 54 K.

The occurrence of trihalomethanes (THMs) was studied in the drinking water samples from urban water supply network of Karachi city that served more than 18 million people. Drinking water samples were collected from 58 locations in summer (May-August) and winter (November-February) seasons. The major constituent of THMs detected was chloroform in winter (92.34%) and summer (93.07%), while the other THMs determined at lower concentrations. Summer and winter concentrations of total THMs at places exceed the levels regulated by UEPA (80 μg l-1) and WHO (100 μg l-1). GIS linked temporal variability in two seasons showed significantly higher median concentration (2.5%-23.06%) of THMs compared to winter.

A series of mononuclear Co(II) complexes showing slow magnetic relaxation is assessed from the point of view of relaxation mechanisms. In certain cases, the reciprocating thermal behavior is detected: On cooling, the slow relaxation time is prolonged until a certain limit and then, unexpectedly, is accelerated. The low-temperature magnetic data can be successfully fitted by assuming Raman and/or phonon bottleneck mechanisms of the slow magnetic relaxation for the high-frequency relaxation channel. An additional term with the negative temperature exponent is capable of reproducing the whole experimental dataset.
