Gas-phase IR spectroscopic studies and supporting theoretical studies have been performed on adenosine 5′-triphosphate, cytosine 5′-triphosphate and guanosine 5′-triphosphate to elucidate the structural properties of the NTPs by focusing on the influence of the nucleobase and the extent of deprotonation.

Single crystals of [2-CH3CH2C6H4NH3]6P6O18⋅4H2O are synthesized in aqueous solution by the interaction of cyclohexaphosphoric acid and 2-ethylaniline. This compound crystallizes in the monoclinic system with P21/c space group the unit cell dimensions are: a=16.220(4) Å, b=10.220(5) Å, c=20.328(4) Å, β=113.24(3)∘, Z=2, and V=3096.5(18) Å3. The atomic arrangement can be described by layers formed by cyclohexaphosphate anions P6O186− and water molecules connected by hydrogen bonds O–H⋯O. These inorganic layers are developed around bc planes at x=1/2 and are interconnected by the H-bonds created by ammonium groups of organic cations. All the hydrogen bonds, the van der Waals contacts and electrostatic interactions between the different entities give rise to a three-dimensional network in the structure and add stability to this compound. The thermal behaviour and the IR spectroscopic studies of this new cyclohexaphosphate are discussed.

The aim of the present work is to study the structural properties of 3C-SiC which is grown on (0001) 6H-SiC and on (100) 3C-SiC (Hoya) seeds using the Continuous Feed Physical Vapor Transport (CF-PVT) method. Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) observations confirm that the overgrown layer is of the 3C-SiC polytype. In the case of the 6H-SiC substrate, microtwins (MTs), stacking faults (SFs) and dislocations (D) are observed at the substrate-overgrown interface with most of the dislocations annihilating within the first few µm from the interface. In the case of 3C-SiC crystals grown on 3C seeds, repeated SFs are formed locally and also coherent (111) twins of 3C-SiC are frequently observed near the surface. The SF density is reduced at the uppermost part of the grown material.

3C-SiC layers were grown on Si substrates using standard precursors (SiH4and C3H8) and by adding methyl trichloro silane (MTS) to the gas phase, with growth temperatures between 1200 and 1300 °C. Characterization of the 3C-SiC layers shows that 3C-SiC grown with MTS has higher polycrystalline and amorphous content as well as lower residual stress.

ABSTRACTBoron doped a-SiC:H samples have been obtained both by gas phase doping during film growth and by using ion implantation. All the implanted samples were annealed under vacuum to remove the damage introduced by ion implantation and to produce a dopant diffusion. Physical properties deduced by optical, electrical and structural characterization of the two sets of samples have been compared. Ion implantation technique allows a better control of the dopant dose but increases the compositional disorder and the obtained conductivity values are one order of magnitude lower than those of gas doped samples.
