It is demonstrated that hydrogen treatment as a simple, effective strategy can greatly improve the broadband photo-responsive performance of pristine TiO2 nanorod arrays (NRAs)/SiO2/n-Si heterojunctions.

A largely voided TiO2 nanorod array was modified with Fe2O3 thin layers to deliver ∼3.3 times higher the applied bias photon-to-current efficiency than that of a plain TiO2 nanorod array.
