For small curvatures of a graphitic sheet, carbon atoms can maintain their preferred sp2 bonding while allowing the sheet to have various three-dimensional geometries, which may have exotic structural and electronic properties. In addition the fivefold rings will lead to a positive Gaussian curvature in the hexagonal network, and the sevenfold rings cause a negative one. By combining these sevenfold and fivefold rings with sixfold rings, it is possible to construct complicated carbon sp2 networks. Because it is much easier to introduce pentagons and heptagons into the single-layer hexagonal network than into the multilayer network, the complicated morphologies would be more common in the single-layer graphite structures. In this contribution, we report the observation and characterization of a new material of monolayer graphitic structure by electron diffraction, HREM, EELS.The synthesis process used in this study is reported early. We utilized a composite anode of graphite and copper for arc evaporation in helium.

AbstractIn this work, the first results of the effects of temperature during the production of Se2- ions and the effect during the interaction of Cd2+ and Se2- ions in the synthesis process of CdSe nanoparticles are presented. The synthesis of CdSe was carried out by the colloidal technique, in the first one we used a temperature of 63 °C to produce Se2- ions and in the second one an interaction temperature of 49 °C. The samples were characterized using a Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and a Scanning Tunneling Microscope (STM). From the SEM micrographs it was possible to identify the thorns formation and irregular islands. STM micrographs reveal elliptical shapes with a regular electron cloud profile.

<p>To mitigate global problems related to energy and global warming, it is helpful to develop an ammonia synthesis process using catalysts that are highly active under mild conditions. Here we show that the ammonia synthesis activity of Ru/Ba/LaCeO<i><sub>x</sub></i> pre-reduced at 700 °C is the highest reported among oxide-supported Ru catalysts. Our results indicate that low crystalline oxygen-deficient composite oxides, which include Ba<sup>2+</sup>, Ce<sup>3+</sup> and La<sup>3+</sup>, with strong electron-donating ability, accumulate on Ru particles and thus promote N≡N bond cleavage, which is the rate determining step for ammonia synthesis.</p>

The development of a new class of broadband matching devices, including active impedance transformers, with the possibility of correcting the phase response is an actual task at present. Synthesis of a broadband active impedance transformer with a phase response corresponding to a second-order lattice X-section in a distributed elemental basis based on the previously presented method for the synthesis of broadband matching devices with predetermined phase response is considered in this paper. As a result of synthesis, the y-matrix of the broadband transforming two-port network is obtained. The functions of its own parameters represented in the form of Foster. Applying various conditions of circuit realizability in the synthesis process, we obtained structures convenient for realization on microwave on regular transmission lines, one of which is investigated at various parameters of a given phase response. As a result of the research, it is found that the structure has a wide ability to reproduce the phase response of a second-order lattice X-section with different parameters, and also reproduce the linear phase response characteristic while maintaining an acceptable level of the power conversion coefficient in a given frequency band. Thus, the efficiency of the previously proposed method of synthesis of broadband matching devices with predetermined phase response is demonstrated, and also the possibilities of active impedance transformers on regular transmission lines are shown.

Protein Interaction Analysis (PPI) can be used to identify proteins that have a supporting function on the main protein, especially in the synthesis process. Insulin is synthesized by proteins that have the same molecular function covering different but mutually supportive roles. To identify this function, the translation of Gene Ontology (GO) gives certain characteristics to each protein. This study purpose to predict proteins that interact with insulin using the centrality method as a feature extractor and extreme gradient boosting as a classification algorithm. Characteristics using the centralized method produces  features as a central function of protein. Classification results are measured using measurements, precision, recall and ROC scores. Optimizing the model by finding the right parameters produces an accuracy of  and a ROC score of . The prediction model produced by XGBoost has capabilities above the average of other machine learning methods.

The physical and chemical synthesis methods of quantum dots (QDs) are generally unfavorable for biological applications. To overcome this limitation, the development of a novel “green” route to produce highly-fluorescent CdSe QDs constitutes a promising substitute approach. In the present work, CdSe QDs were biosynthesized in yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae using a novel method, where we showed for the first time that the concentration of tryptone highly affects the synthesis process. The optimum concentration of tryptone was found to be 25 g/L for the highest yield. Different methods were used to optimize the QD extraction from yeast, and the best method was found to be by denaturation at 80 °C along with an ultrasound needle. Multiple physical characterizations including transmission electron microscopy (TEM), dynamic light scattering (DLS), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), and spectrophotometry confirmed the optical features size and shape distribution of the QDs. We showed that the novel conjugate of the CdSe QDs and a cell-penetrating peptide (hecate) can detect bacterial cells very efficiently under a fluorescent microscope. The conjugate also showed strong antibacterial activity against vancomycin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (VRSA), methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), and Escherichia coli, which may help us to cope with the problem of rising antibiotic resistance.
