Novel visible-light responded aluminosilicophosphate-5 (SAPO-5)/g-C3N4 composite has been easily constructed by thermal polymerization for the mixture of SAPO-5, NH4Cl, and dicyandiamide. The photocatalytic activity of SAPO-5/g-C3N4 is evaluated by degrading RhB (30 mg/L) under visible light illumination (λ > 420 nm). The effects of SAPO-5 incorporation proportion and initial RhB concentration on the photocatalytic performance have been discussed in detail. The optimized SAPO-5/g-C3N4 composite shows promising degradation efficiency which is 40.6% higher than that of pure g-C3N4. The degradation rate improves from 0.007 min−1 to 0.022 min−1, which is a comparable photocatalytic performance compared with other g-C3N4-based heterojunctions for dye degradation. The migration of photo-induced electrons from g-C3N4 to the Al site of SAPO-5 should promote the photo-induced electron-hole pairs separation rate of g-C3N4 efficiently. Furthermore, the redox reactions for RhB degradation occur on the photo-induced holes in the g-C3N4 and Al sites in SAPO-5, respectively. This achievement not only improves the photocatalytic activity of g-C3N4 efficiently, but also broadens the application of SAPOs in the photocatalytic field.

The improvement of photocatalytic activity of TiO2-based nanomaterials is widely investigated due to the tentative of their industrialization as environmental photocatalysts and their inherently low solar spectrum sensitivity and rapid recombination of charge carriers. Coupling of oxygen-based bidentate diketone to nanocrystalline TiO2 represents a potential alternative for improving the holdbacks. Formation of TiO2-acetylacetone charge transfer complex (CTC) by sol-gel route results in a hybrid semiconductor material with photodegradation activity against toxic NOx gas. In this research, the influence of the chelating agent acetylacetone (ACAC) content on the CTC photocatalytic efficiency under visible light was evaluated. A high content of ACAC in the CTC is not a decisive factor for efficiency of photocatalytic reactions. In fact, the highest efficiency for NOx degradation (close to 100%, during 1 h of visible light exposure) was reported for the material calcined in air at 300 °C with the content of strongly bonded acetylacetone not higher than 3 wt.%. Higher calcination temperature (400 °C) left TiO2 almost completely depleted in ACAC, while at the highest applied temperature (550 °C) a portion of anatase was transformed into rutile and the sample is free of ACAC. The analyses pointed out that superoxide anion radical (O2−) plays an active role in photo-oxidation of NOx. Our findings indicate that this CTC has both high visible light spectral sensitivity and photocatalytic efficiency.

In this paper, a novel heterostructure of 0D/3D-CdSe/Bi[Formula: see text]TiO[Formula: see text] pyramidal photocatalyst was synthesized and characterized. It exhibited significantly photocatalytic efficiency in photocatalytic degradation of the tetracycline than pure Bi[Formula: see text]TiO2 and CdSe and showed high stability. The enhanced photocatalytic activity might be attributed to the formation of heterostructure between CdSe QDs and 3D Bi[Formula: see text]TiO[Formula: see text], in which CdSe QDs served as electron trapper to improve the separation of photodegradation electron–hole pairs, and provided a number of active adsorption sites for the photogenerated of pollutants. The photocatalytic mechanism of 0D/3D-CdSe/Bi[Formula: see text]TiO[Formula: see text] pyramidal heterostructure was also proposed.

In and Ag co-doped ZnS photocatalysts were successfully prepared by hydrothermal method to extend the light absorption of ZnS to the visible light region. The concentration of In was constant while for Ag was varied to optimize the photocatalytic activity. The In and Ag co-doped ZnS photocatalysts showed smaller band gap energy compared to single doped In (0.1)-ZnS and undoped ZnS. The photocatalytic activity of In and Ag co-doped ZnS photocatalysts was evaluated from the amount of hydrogen produced. The hydrogen evolution rate from aqueous solution containing Na2SO3 and Na2S as sacrificial reagent under visible light irradiation obtained from In and Ag co-doped ZnS is higher compared to the single doped In (0.1)-ZnS when optimum amount of Ag dopant was added. The highest photocatalytic activity is observed for In (0.1),Ag (0.01)-ZnS with hydrogen production rate of 26.82 μmol/h. The higher performance of this photocatalyst is ascribed to the extended visible light absorption, efficient charge separation as well as improved electron transfer associated with synergistic effect of appropriate amount of In and Ag co-doped ZnS.

Mitigating organic pollutants by employing semiconducting materials is considered to be green and sustainable route to tackle the environmental problems. Herein, citrate-gel autocombustion method was adopted to synthesize Ce and Dy doped CoFe2O4 and characterized by various analytical techniques. The efficacy of prepared CoCexDyxFe2-2xO4 (x=0-0.04) samples were tested for degradation of Methylene blue (MB) under visible light irradiation. The photocatalytic efficiency of CoCe0.02Dy0.02Fe1.96O4 for degradation of MB was found to be larger than pure CoFe2O4, Degussa P25 and other modified CoFe2O4. The enhanced photocatalytic activity was attributed to improved charge separation and visible light utilization by Ce and Dy into CoFe2O4 system. The super-spin glass behaviour of CoCexDyxFe2-2xO4 confirmed from flat nature of magnetization of FC curve below TB.
