Four magnetic frameworks with hourglass-shaped {Cu5(μ3-OH)2}8+ cluster, linear {Cu3(μ-Cl)2}4+ core, linear {Cu(μ1,1-N3)}+ chain and trigonal-prismatic {Cu8(μ3-tz)6}10+ motifs were reported.

Three novel heterometallic compounds [CuII3LnIII2] [Ln = Ho (1), Dy (2) and Gd (3)] containing mixed organic ligands were obtained. 1 and 2 show slow magnetic relaxation behaviour.

The syntheses, crystal structures, and magnetic properties of a family of new 3d–4f heterometallic trinuclear complexes were investigated. Slow magnetic relaxation was observed for the Zn–Dy–Zn complex besides stronger fluorescent emissions.
