A novel phenomenon known as Industry X.0 is becoming extremely popular for digitizing and reinventing business organizations through the adaption of rapid and dynamic technological, innovational, and organizational changes for attaining the profitable revenue. This work investigates the die-casted commercially pure aluminum alloyed with 9% silicon and 3% copper (AlSi9Cu3) that is produced through the gravity die casting process. Further, the degradation of surface coating on die-casted AlSi9Cu3 alloy was explored. The acrylic paint electrodeposition (ED) coat, 2-coat polyester without primer and 3-coat polyester with epoxy primer powder coatings were used in this study. Moreover, the 3.5 wt.% of sodium chloride (3.5 wt.% of NaCl) test solution was used for electrochemical and salt spray test and the tools used to assess electrochemical properties were electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), potentiodynamic polarization, and neutral salt spray test (NSS). The microstructure of AlSi9Cu3 after corrosion exposure was investigated; also, the microstructure of coated and uncoated AlSi9Cu3 samples was analyzed by SEM microscopy after corrosion exposure. Besides, the electrochemical studies were also carried out on the Al alloy die casting. It was found that acrylic paint ED coatings exhibited higher corrosion resistance than 2-coat polyester without primer & 3-coat polyester with epoxy primer powder coatings. Acrylic paint ED coating showed higher corrosion resistance in AC and a lower value in DC and 3-coat polyester with epoxy primer powder coating displayed higher corrosion resistance in DC and a lower value in AC.

The corrosion behavior of duplex Ni-P coatings deposited on AZ91 magnesium alloy was studied. The electroless deposition process of duplex Ni-P coating consisted in the preparation of low-phosphorus Ni-P coating (5.7 wt.% of P), which served as a bond coating and high-phosphorus Ni-P coating (11.5 wt.% of P) deposited on it. The duplex Ni-P coatings with the thickness of 25, 50, 75 and 100 µm were deposited on AZ91 magnesium alloy. The electrochemical corrosion behavior of coated AZ91 magnesium alloy was investigated by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and potentiodynamic polarization method in 0.1 M NaCl. Obtained results showed a significant improvement in the corrosion resistance of coated specimens when compared to uncoated AZ91 magnesium alloy. From the results of the immersion tests in 3.5 wt.% NaCl, 10% solution of HCl and NaOH and 5% neutral salt spray, a noticeable increase in the corrosion resistance with the increasing thickness of the Ni-P coating was observed.

In this paper, an organic/inorganic molybdenum series Cr-free coating was formed on galvanized steel by simple immersion and its corrosion behavior was compared to that of a typical chromate coating. Molybdate and 1-Hydroxy-ethylidene-1, 1-diphosphonic acid (HEDP) were used as corrosion inhibitor, as well as acrylic resin and silane were used as film-former and coupling agents, respectively. The corrosion behavior of the coatings was evaluated by Neutral salt spray (NSS), Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and Tafel polarization. The surface topography of the samples was observed by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). The results indicated that the corroded area of the Mo-HEDP treatment was only corroded 2% after 72 h spraying, while the corrosion behaviour of Mo-HEDP was closed to that of Cr pretreatment due to the synergistic reaction of molybdate and HEDP. Compared with the film of Cr treatment, Mo-HEDP passivating coating was more environmentally friendly.

Accelerated atmospheric corrosion behavior of carbon steel pipes subjected to cyclic salt spray test was performed according to ISO 14993 – Corrosion of metals and alloys – Accelerated testing involving cyclic exposure to salt mist, “dry” and “wet” conditions [1]. In order to investigate the effect of degree of exposure to environment of inner surface of the pipe on corrosion behavior of inner surface of the specimens, degree of completeness of weldment, 0%, 50%, 80%, and 100%, of steel cover plate is varied. Exposure times in this study are 168, 336, and 504 hours which can be correlated to 10, 20, and 30 years exposed to C3 corrosivity category according to the definition of ISO 9223 – Corrosion of metals and alloys – Corrosivity of atmospheres – Classification, determination and estimation [2,3]. After testing, visual inspection on outer and inner surfaces of the specimens were performed. In addition, average corrosion rate of the specimens were performed according to ISO 8407 – Corrosion of metals and alloys – Removal of corrosion products from corrosion test specimens [4]. The results show that as-received steel pipe specimens exhibited great degree of corrosion attack on the inner surface of the specimens while slight amount of corrosion was observed from the welded pipe specimens.

The water-based paint had been examined to prepare a new chromate-free insulating coating on silicon steels. The structure of the insulating coating was characterized by scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive spectroscopy and infrared spectroscopy. Adhesion, high temperature annealing, and surface insulating resistance were measured. Corrosion resistance was investigated by neutral salt spray test and electrochemical test. Results exhibited that the insulating coating had excellent comprehensive performance. The adhesive level was 5B degree; the high temperature annealing test showed no coating degradation after heat treatment of 2 h at 450 °C in air or at 750 °C in nitrogen; the salt spray test showed the corrosion area was less than 2 % after the 12 h salt spray; when the coating thickness was 1.0-1.2 μm, the surface insulating resistance value was 380-420 Ω/mm2.
