A sputtered ZnO thin film was used as electron extraction layer, in a planar perovskite based solar cell. As a result a maximum power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 14.2%, measured at reverse scan, has been demonstrated.

The hole blocking layer plays an important role in suppressing recombination of holes and electrons between the perovskite layer and fluorine-doped tin oxide (FTO). Morphological defects, such as cracks, at the compact TiO2 hole blocking layer due to rough FTO surface seriously affect performance of perovskite solar cells (PSCs). Herein, we employ a simple spin-coating SnO2 thin film solution to cover cracks of TiO2 hole blocking layer for PSCs. The experiment results indicate that the TiO2/SnO2 complementary composite hole blocking layer could eliminate the serious electrical current leakage existing inside the device, extremely reducing interface defects and hysteresis. Furthermore, a high efficiency of 13.52% was achieved for the device, which is the highest efficiency ever recorded in PSCs with spongy carbon film deposited on a separated FTO-substrate as composite counter electrode under one sun illumination.

A compact hole blocking layer is necessary for high efficient perovskite solar cell, which was usually fabricated by spin coating or spray pyrolysis with the followed annealing process, or vacuum deposition. Here, we deposited TiO2 compact layers by an in-situ room-temperature solvent method, which were applied as an effective hole blocking layer for hole-conductor-free perovskite solar cells with carbon electrodes. The thickness of the TiO2 compact layer can be easily regulated by the depositing time. By optimizing the TiO2 depositing time, the power conversion efficiency of hole-conductor-free perovskite solar cells was up to 10.66%.

AbstractEfficient electron transport layers (ETLs) not only play a crucial role in promoting carrier separation and electron extraction in perovskite solar cells (PSCs) but also significantly affect the process of nucleation and growth of the perovskite layer. Herein, crystalline polymeric carbon nitrides (cPCN) are introduced to regulate the electronic properties of SnO2 nanocrystals, resulting in cPCN-composited SnO2 (SnO2-cPCN) ETLs with enhanced charge transport and perovskite layers with decreased grain boundaries. Firstly, SnO2-cPCN ETLs show three times higher electron mobility than pristine SnO2 while offering better energy level alignment with the perovskite layer. The SnO2-cPCN ETLs with decreased wettability endow the perovskite films with higher crystallinity by retarding the crystallization rate. In the end, the power conversion efficiency (PCE) of planar PSCs can be boosted to 23.17% with negligible hysteresis and a steady-state efficiency output of 21.98%, which is one of the highest PCEs for PSCs with modified SnO2 ETLs. SnO2-cPCN based devices also showed higher stability than pristine SnO2, maintaining 88% of the initial PCE after 2000 h of storage in the ambient environment (with controlled RH of 30% ± 5%) without encapsulation.

Zinc Oxide (ZnO) thin film has been synthesized using the chemical spray pyrolysis technique and ethylene glycol has been used as solvent during the synthesis. X-ray diffraction (XRD) results show cubic and tetragonal phases of ZnO and the grain size was calculated to be 2.57nm. Optical characterization reveals very high transmittance within the visible-ultraviolet region and a bandgap of 3.49 eV was obtained for ZnO thin film. Scanning Electron Microscopic (SEM) analysis showed a void-free non-homogenous surface.

The effect of Zinc-Oxide (ZnO) thin film annealed in different ambiences is presented. To achieve low cost and environmentally friendly process, ZnO aqueous solution is synthesized by dissolving zinc acetate dihydrate in deionized water directly. Zinc oxide aqueous solution of high solubility and stability is presented. High quality and dense Zinc oxide thin film is formed by spin coating. Annealing temperatures are in the range of 300 °C~500 °C, and annealing ambiences of both air and N2 are discussed.

The properties of zinc oxide thin films were prepared by sol-gel spin-coating method have been presented. This study based on optical and electrical properties of ZnO thin film. The effects of annealing temperatures that exposed with two environments properties have been investigated. Environments exposed in room (27°C) and hot (80°C) temperatures which are stored by various days. Solution preparation, thin film deposition and characterization process were involved in this project. The ZnO films were characterized using UV-Vis-NIR spectrophotometer for optical properties. From that equipment, the percentage of transmittance (%) and absorption coefficient spectra were obtained. With two environments showed have different absorption coefficient are reveal and all films have low absorbance in visible and near infrared (IR) region but have high UV absorption properties. From SEM investigations the surface morphology of ZnO thin film shows the particles size become smaller and denser in hot temperatures while in room temperatures have porosity between particles.
