The work investigates the characteristics of the porosity of inorganic salts: magnesium silicate and yttrium aluminum garnet (YAG). Using the example of nanocrystalline powders of magnesium silicate and yttrium aluminum garnet, the effect of synthesis parameters on the phase composition and porous characteristics of the obtained powders was studied. The average pore size of adsorbents was obtained: magnesium silicate - 48 nm; YAG, obtained by the standard Pechini method – 44 nm; YAG, obtained by the modified Pechini method – 37 nm; the industrial brand “magnesol” – 32 nm. The resulting materials can be attributed to mesoporous adsorbents.

Microstructures, electrical transport and magnetic properties of Sr[Formula: see text]Ti[Formula: see text]Co[Formula: see text]O[Formula: see text] ceramics are investigated. With Co doping, the Sr[Formula: see text]Ti[Formula: see text]Co[Formula: see text]O[Formula: see text] ceramics remain tetragonal structure while the grain size is decreased with doping. Magnetic moment is enhanced with Co doping and ferromagnetism is observed at low temperatures for Co-doped Sr[Formula: see text]TiO[Formula: see text]. The Sr[Formula: see text]Ti[Formula: see text]Co[Formula: see text]O[Formula: see text] and Sr[Formula: see text]Ti[Formula: see text]Co[Formula: see text]O[Formula: see text] show semiconductor-like transport properties, which can be well fitted by Mott variable range hopping model. The results will provide an effective route to synthesize Sr[Formula: see text]Ti[Formula: see text]Co[Formula: see text]O[Formula: see text] ceramics as well as to investigate the physical properties.

GaAs layers grown by MBE at low temperatures (in the 200°C range, LT-GaAs) have been reported to have very interesting electronic and transport properties. Previous studies have shown that, before annealing, the crystalline quality of the layers is related to the growth temperature. Lowering the temperature or increasing the layer thickness generally results in some columnar polycrystalline growth. For the best “temperature-thickness” combinations, the layers may be very As rich (up to 1.25%) resulting in an up to 0.15% increase of the lattice parameter, consistent with the excess As. Only after annealing are the technologically important semi-insulating properties of these layers observed. When annealed in As atmosphere at about 600°C a decrease of the lattice parameter to the substrate value is observed. TEM studies show formation of precipitates which are supposed to be As related since the average As concentration remains almost unchanged upon annealing.

In the present work, LaNi0.5Ti0.45Co0.05O3, LaNi0.45Co0.05Ti0.5O3, and LaNi0.5Ti0.5O3 perovskites were synthesized by the modified Pechini method. These materials were characterized using X-ray fluorescence, scanning electron microscopy, and powder X-ray diffraction coupled to the Rietveld method. The crystal structure of these materials is orthorhombic, with space group Pbnm (No 62). The unit-cell parameters are a = 5.535(5) Å, b = 5.527(3) Å, c = 7.819(7) Å, V = 239.2(3) Å3, for the LaNi0.5Ti0.45Co0.05O3, a = 5.538(6) Å, b = 5.528(4) Å, c = 7.825(10) Å, V = 239.5(4) Å3, for the LaNi0.45Co0.05Ti0.5O3, and a = 5.540(2) Å, b = 5.5334(15) Å, c = 7.834(3) Å, V = 240.2(1) Å3, for the LaNi0.5Ti0.5O3.

Spinel-perovskite multiferroics of NiFe2O4/BiFeO3 nanoparticles were prepared by modified Pechini method. The structure and morphology of the composites were examined by means of X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The results showed that the composites consisted of spinel NiFe2O4 and perovskite BiFeO3 after annealed at 700°C for 2h, and the particle size ranges from 40 to 100nm. VSM and ME results indicated that the nanocomposites exhibited both tuning magnetic properties and a ME effect. The ME effect of the nanocomposites strongly depended on the magnetic bias and magnetic field frequency.
