Two goblet-shaped 5Ln clusters have been assembled. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies reveal that both compounds feature a novel homometallic appended cubane geometry. The magnetic study on 1 suggests the presence of anti-ferromagnetic interactions, whereas 2 exhibits SMM behavior.

Two novel mixed valence di/tri nuclear CoII–CoIII complexes were synthesized and characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction. Magnetic studies at low temperature revealed that both complexes show slow magnetic relaxation.

Three types of Ln(III)–Co(II) heterometallic compounds, LnCo2(L1)7(bipy)2 (Ln = Pr-1, Eu-2, Sm-3, Gd-4, Tb-5, Dy-6) (L1 = 4-chlorobenzoate, bipy = 2,2′-bipyridine), Ln2Co2(L2)10(bipy)2 (Ln = Sm-7, Gd-8, Tb-9, Dy-10, Ho-11, Er-12, Yb-13), (L2 = 2,4-dichlorobenzoate, bipy = 2,2′-bipyridine, phen = 1,10-phenanthroline), and Ln2Co3(L1)12(bipy)2 (Ln = Ho-14, Er-15, Yb-16), were synthesized under hydrothermal conditions and characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction, IR spectroscopy and magnetic measurements. Structural analyses revealed that 14–16 take on a unique linear pentanuclear structural motif. Interestingly, the Ho-containing compound 14 exhibits magnetic relaxation behavior.

ABSTRACTAn 1D Cu(II) complex, which formula is [Cu(hfac)2NITpPy]n (1) (NITpPy = 2-(4-pyridyl)-4,4,5,5-tetra-methylimidazoline-1-oxyl-3-oxide, hfac = hexafluoroacetylacetonate) has been synthesized and characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction. The complex 1 crystallizes in the triclinic pī space group. Two adjacent Cu(II) ions with different coordination modes are bridged by NITpPy to form a magnetic zig-zag chain. In the built chains, the Cu(II) ions located in the CuO4N2 coordination environment and the >N–O–Cu(II)- O–N< hetero-spin clusters of the CuO6 units are alternately arranged, which lead to two different Cu-NITpPy magnetic interactions. The fit parameters (J1 = −3.56 cm−1 and J2 = 0.46 cm−1) indicate an antiferromagnetic and ferromagnetic interactions in the complex 1.

Uniaxial compression tests and hydrostatic tests at pressures up to 27 kbars have been performed to determine operating slip systems in single crystal and polycrystal1ine beryllium. A recent study has been made of wave propagation in single crystal beryllium by shock loading to selectively activate various slip systems, and this has been followed by a study of wave propagation and spallation in textured, polycrystal1ine beryllium. An alteration in the X-ray diffraction pattern has been noted after shock loading, but this alteration has not yet been correlated with any structural change occurring during shock loading of polycrystal1ine beryllium. This study is being conducted in an effort to characterize the effects of shock loading on textured, polycrystal1ine beryllium. Samples were fabricated from a billet of Kawecki-Berylco hot pressed HP-10 beryllium.
