Sunscreen formulations containing inorganic/organic filters or mixture of them were synthesized by oil/water dispersion. The viscosity measurements show that sunscreen formulations are time-dependent non-newtonian fluids. In the CIELab color diagram, the white and/or beige colors presented by formulations do not compromise the aesthetics of the cosmetic product. UV-VIS absorption spectra show that sunscreen creams have high UV shielding ability, mainly the formulations containing inorganic and organic filters mixtures, which provide in vitro SPF and critical wavelength values recommended for UV protection.

The theory of the optical properties of linear and tubular molecular J-aggregates is reviewed. The primary optical excitations in these systems are Frenkel excitons, which may be delocalized over many molecules. The collective nature of these excitations gives rise to special optical properties and dynamics, which are of interest for purely scientific reasons, but also enable the application of J-aggregates as photographic sensitizers and artificial light-harvesting systems. The focus of this paper is on the effect of aggregate geometry, disorder, and temperature on the absorption and fluorescence spectra. Also transport of excitations between J-aggregates is discussed. Connection is made to experiments on aggregates of cyanine dyes and natural light-harvesting systems.

AbstractThe bis(melaminium) sulphate dihydrate, 2,4,6-triamine-1,3,5-triazin-1,3-ium tartrate monohydrate, 2,4,6-triamine-1,3,5-triazin-1-ium hydrogenphthalate, 2,4,6-triamine-1,3,5-triazin-1-ium acetate acetic acid solvate monohydrate, 2,4,6-triamine-1,3,5-triazin-1-ium bis(selenate) trihydrate, melaminium diperchlorate hydrate, melaminium bis(trichloroacetate) monohydrate and melaminium bis(4-hydroxybenzenesulphonate) dihydrate were discovered recently as perspective materials for nonlinear optical applications. On the basis of X-ray structures for eight melaminium compounds the time dependent Hartree Fock (TDHF) method was used for calculation of the polarizability, and first and second hyperpolarizability. Detailed directional studies of calculated hyperpolarizability for all investigated melaminium compounds are shown. The theoretical results are compared with experimental values of β.
