Rational chrysanthemum-like TiO2 nanostructures have been developed by a facile effective approach as the anode materials, exhibiting good lithium storage performances with excellent rate capacity and good cycling stability (see the picture), which are much better than those of TiO2 electrodes reported so far under similar testing conditions.

We encapsulate ionic liquids (ILs) into polyoxometalate-based metal–organic frameworks (POMOFs) to fabricate a series of ILs-functionalized POMOFs crystals (POMs-ILs@MOFs) and PMo10V2-ILs@MIL-100 crystals used as anode materials show high reversible capacity, superior cycling stability and rate capability.

A novel network of spindle-like carbon nanofibers was fabricated via a simplified synthesis involving electrospinning followed by preoxidation in air and postcarbonization in Ar. Not only was the as-obtained carbon network comprised of beads of spindle-like nanofibers but the cubic MnO phase and N elements were successfully anchored into the amorphous carbon matrix. When directly used as a binder-free anode for lithium-ion batteries, the network showed excellent electrochemical performance with high capacity, good rate capacity and reliable cycling stability. Under a current density of 0.2 A g−1, it delivered a high reversible capacity of 875.5 mAh g−1 after 200 cycles and 1005.5 mAh g−1 after 250 cycles with a significant coulombic efficiency of 99.5%.

A TiO2–bronze/N-doped graphene nanocomposite was prepared by a facile method. The material exhibits outstanding rate capacity. A high reversible capacity of 101.6 mA h g−1 is obtained at the 100C rate, indicating its great potential for use in high power lithium ion batteries.

The one-dimensional MoS2/carbon nanofibers (1D MoS2/CNFs) are synthesized by electrospinning using exfoliated MoS2 nanosheets and polyacrylonitrile as raw materials. The exfoliated MoS2 nanosheets with size of about 150 nm are encapsulated in carbon nanofibers, and the free-standing MoS2/CNFs can be easily cut into flexible tablet and directly used as binder-free anode for lithium storage. The resultant 1D MoS2/CNFs exhibit a very high reversible capacity of 700 mAh g-1 at 100 mA g-1 after 50 cycles, high rate capacity (450 mAh g-1 at 1000 mA g-1 after 200 cycles) and good cycle stability.
