A phthalimide-based fluorescent probe for H2S with a large Stokes shift has been developed. This probe displayed good selectivity and high sensitivity. Imaging intracellular H2S by using this probe was successfully achieved in living cells.

An azido-based fluorescent probe was developed for the sensitive and selective detection of H2S with a red emission and a large Stokes shift. The probe was successfully applied to detect H2S both in aqueous solution and in living cells.

A phthalimide-based fluorescent probe for thiols with a large Stokes shift (161 nm) was developed via PET and ESIPT mechanisms. This probe displayed good selectivity and high sensitivity toward thiols. Imaging intracellular thiols was successfully achieved in living cells.
