The phase and microstructure of four kinds of plasma sprayed TiO2 coatings (P25, ST, NK, KT) were characterized by XRD (X-ray Diffraction), FE-SEM (Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscope) and TEM ( Transmission Electron Microscopy). Their photocatalytic properties were discussed in relation to phase composition and microstructure. The FE-SEM observation results reveal that there are quite a number of nanoparticles on the surfaces of all four kinds of plasma sprayed TiO2 coatings, which provide photocatalytic reactive sites. Based on the observation results of FE-SEM and TEM, the microstructure schematic of plasma sprayed TiO2 coatings using nanoparticles as feedstock is suggested. The best photocatalytic property of P25 coating among the four plasma sprayed TiO2 coatings is attributed to the combination of its fine “cauliflower” structure and the highest anatase content.

“Non-fluorescent” chlorophyll catabolites (NCCs) were named “rusty pigments” originally, as they easily oxidized to yellow chlorophyll catabolites (YCCs) and other colored natural “phyllobilins.” In the present work, binding of Zn(II)-ions by YCC and its methyl ester YCC-Me, and structural investigations of the resulting Zn(II)-complexes are reported. Binding of Zn-ions to the weakly luminescent YCC or YCC-Me in DMSO produces orange-yellow complexes that exhibit strong green emission. The Zn-complex of YCC-Me was isolated and characterized by UV-vis-, fluorescence-, mass- and NMR-spectra. The data revealed a 2:1 complex, Zn(YCC-Me)[Formula: see text], in which YCC-Me serves as bidentate ligand. The Zn(II)-center in Zn(YCC-Me)[Formula: see text] is, thereby, deduced to be coordinated in a pseudo tetrahedral fashion. Formation of Zn(YCC-Me)[Formula: see text] (and of Zn(YCC)[Formula: see text] is compatible with an isomerization of the lactam form of ring D to the corresponding lactim tautomer in these neutral Zn(II)-complexes.

Pure TiO2 , Ti 0.75 Fe0.25 O2, Ti0.75 Ni0.25 O2, Ti0.75 Co0.25 O2 nanocrystals were prepared by low temperature sol-gel method. The samples were characterized by using transmission electron microscope, X-ray diffractometer and ultraviolet-visible spectrophotometer to study the effect of transition metal ions on the photocatalytic properties of TiO2 nanocrystals. The results show that the pure TiO2 and Ti0.75 Fe0.25 O2, Ti0.75 Ni0.25 O2, Ti0.75 Co0.25 O2 nanocrystals were granular and the size of which is 3.5, 2.9, 3.6, 3.9 nm, respectively. The titania anatase phases appear in the pure TiO2 , the Ti0.75 Fe0.25 O2, Ti0.75 Ni0.25 O2, Ti0.75 Co0.25 O2. The absorption edge of Ti0.75 Fe0.25 O2occur red shift comparing with that of pure TiO2 and the absorption edge of Ti0.75 Fe0.25 O2and Ti0.75 Fe0.25 O2occur blue shift comparing with that of pure TiO2. The photocatalytic properties of pure TiO2, Ti0.75 Fe0.25 O2, Ti0.75 Fe0.25 O2, Ti0.75 Fe0.25 O2nanocrystals synthesized at low temperature by sol-gel method were investigated by degrading the methyl orange solution under ultraviolet irradiation. The degradation rate of Ti0.75 Fe0.25 O2is the highest (60%) and that of Ti0.75Co0.25O2 (10%) is the lowest among these catalysts after degradation for 120min.The result shows that the photocatalytic property ofTi0.75 Fe0.25 O2nanocrystals synthesized at low temperature is obviously better than that of pure TiO2 and Ti0.75 Fe0.25 O2, Ti0.75 Fe0.25 O2.

Well-disperse short-range-ordered ZnS nanorods with efficient photocatalytic property for photodegradation of Rhodamin B have been successfully synthesized through a solvothermal method. Solvent used can be recovered and reused, which makes the route environment-friendly. Dodecylamine was found effective in organizing nanorods to ordered monolayer. Characterization showed that these nanorods were uniform with the diameter of about 3 nm and length of nearly 30 nm. And it is expected that these monodisperse ZnS nanorods have potential applications in electroluminescence materials.

Mn doped ZnS nanowires with typical wurtzite single-crystalline structure were successfully synthesized via H2 assistant chemical evaporation deposition method. The investigations indicated that the diameter of Mn/ZnS Nanowire with high aspect ratio is 25~40nm, EDS results show that the content of Mn element is about 4.45at%. HRTEM and SAED results demonstrated that the Mn/ZnS nanowires grow along [101] direction, which was different from the common direction reported in literatures. Room temperature photoluminescence properties were also examined, showing a strong green emission centered at 523.04 nm, and a weak emission at 382.53 nm was also observed, showing a red shift of 45.53 nm comparing to the intrinsic luminescence.
