BiVO4 microsphere with tetragonal-zircon/monoclinic-scheelite heterophase was synthesized by a one-pot template-free hydrothermal method. The heterophase BiVO4 sample exhibited the highest photocatalytic activity with 97.7% of RhB degraded.

The olive-like BiVO4 hierarchical architecture can be synthesized by a facile, template-free hydrothermal method, which shows high visible-light photocatalytic activity for degradation of methylene blue molecules.

A one-pot, template-free, solvothermal method for synthesizing CdS microspheres composed of ultrasmall (∼2 nm) nanocrystals without and with the use of MCE-capping agent has been developed. The photocatalytic activity of the microspheres for degradation of MO under UV and natural sunlight irradiation has been compared.
