The decay kinetics of intermediates produced under photolysis of benzophenone (B) dissolved in soft rubber poly(ethylene-co-butylene) films (abbreviated asE) was studied by ns laser flash photolysis in the temperature range of 263–313 K.

The kinetics of the reaction between gas phase BrO and HO2 radicals, BrO + HO2 → HOBr + O2 (1), have been studied over the atmospherically relevant temperature range T = 246–314 K and at ambient pressure, p = 760 ± 20 Torr, using laser flash photolysis coupled with ultraviolet absorption spectroscopy.

The chemical mechanisms were investigated by steady state photolysis and nanosecond laser flash photolysis experiments. A mechanism for initiating polymerization using both onium salts is proposed here.
