A concise and efficient approach to the synthesis of structurally diverse 6,8a-dihydropyrido[2,3-d]pyrimidine derivatives has been accomplished for the first-time by a three-component reaction involving alkylsulfonyl acetonitrile, an aromatic aldehyde, and 6-aminouracil.

An efficient approach for the synthesis of pyrazolopyridines containing the aminochromane motif through a base-catalyzed cyclization reaction is reported. The synthesis was carried out through a three-component reaction of (arylhydrazono)methyl-4H-chromen-4-one, malononitrile, primary amines in the presence of Et3N at room temperature. However, carrying out the reaction under the same conditions without base led to a fused chromanyl-cyanopyridine. High selectivity, high atom economy, and good to high yields in addition to mild reaction conditions are the advantages of this approach.

A series of pyrido[2,3-d]pyrimidine derivatives were synthesized by the three-component reaction of aromatic aldehyde, malononitrile and 6-amino-4-hydroxy-2-mercaptopyrimidine catalyzed by sodium lauryl sulfate (SDS) in aqueous media. It was interesting that further aromatization took place automatically. This method provides several advantages such as easier work-up, milder reaction conditions and environmental friendly.

A concise and efficient approach to synthesizing coumarin-fused pyrazolo[3,4-b]pyridine via silica sulfuric acid (SSA) catalyzed three-component domino reaction under microwave irradiation has been demonstrated. Participation of various alcohols in construction of coumarin derivatives has been described for the first time. Short reaction time, high yields, one-pot procedure, usage of eco-friendly catalyst, and solvent are the key features of this method.

The three-component reaction of triphenylphosphine, dimethyl acetylenedicarboxylate and 3-arylamino-1-methyl-1H-pyrrole-2,5-diones in CH2Cl2 at room temperature resulted in functionalized 3-(triphenyl-λ5-phosphanylidene)succinates in nearly quantitative yields. However, tri(n-butyl)phosphine promoted reaction of dialkyl acetylenedicarboxylates and 3-arylamino-1-methyl-1H-pyrrole-2,5-diones in CH2Cl2 afforded functionalized pyrrolo[3,4-b]pyridine-4-carboxylates in satisfactory yields.

New methano[1,5]dioxocines, O-heterocycles with a framework similar to Tröger’s base, were prepared by means of a three-component reaction. The scope of this domino reaction was studied.

A novel series of dihydropyrido[2,3-d]pyrimidine derivatives were synthesized by multicomponent domino cyclization via the one-pot three component reaction of 6-amino uracil, substituted aryl aldehydes and N-methyl-1-(methylthio)-2-nitroethenamine in the presence of PTSA 10 mol% as a catalyst. The structures of these synthesized compounds were characterized by spectral analysis. Further the synthesized compounds screened for in vitro antimicrobial activity. Among all the compounds, compound 4b containing flouro substitution exhibited good inhibition against the tested species.

Abstract Q-conditional (non-classical) symmetries of the known three-component reaction-diffusion (RD) system [K. Aoki et al. Theor. Popul. Biol. 50, 1–17 (1996)] modelling interaction between farmers and hunter-gatherers are constructed for the first time. A wide variety of Q-conditional symmetries are found, and it is shown that these symmetries are not equivalent to the Lie symmetries. Some operators of Q-conditional (non-classical) symmetry are applied for finding exact solutions of the RD system in question. Properties of the exact solutions (in particular, their asymptotic behaviour) are identified and possible biological interpretation is discussed.
