Two new heterotrinuclear p-chlorobenzoates, [Fe2CrO(C7H4O2Cl)6(py)3]NO3 (1) and [Cr2FeO(C7H4O2Cl)6(py)3]NO3 (2) were prepared as nitrate salts and characterized by elemental analyses (CHN), spectroscopic (infrared, electronic) studies and atomic absorption spectroscopy. These complexes are a new type of oxo-bridged mixed-metal complex in which the carboxylate ligand is p-chlorobenzoic acid. Bridging coordination modes for the carboxylates were indicated by the presence of ?asym (M2M'O) vibrations in the infrared spectra.

A new-type foam composites were fabricated by baking method from a mixture of cassava starch. A central composite design was constructed using the software Statistics Analysis System 9.0 to evaluate the static compression stress of foamed material. The optimum dosages of adhesive, foaming agent, catalyst were 2.0g, 6.0g, 2.4g, respectively; reaction temperature 65°C; reaction time 16 hour.

In this study, the synthesis and characterization of mono-(phthalocyaninato) lutetium(III) (1-Cl and 1-F) [Lu[Formula: see text](AcO)(Pc)] (Pc [Formula: see text] phthalocyaninato, AcO [Formula: see text] acetate) and bis-(phthalocyaninato) lutetium(III) (2-Cl and 2-Br) [Lu[Formula: see text]Pc[Formula: see text]] bearing halogenated (F, Cl and Br) phenoxy–phenoxy groups are described and verified by IR, [Formula: see text]H-NMR, UV-vis and mass spectrometry. Photochemical and photophysical properties of 1-F, 1-Cl 2-Cl and 2-Br in DMSO are also presented. A comparison between photophysical and photochemical parameters of mono and bis derivatives showed that mono phthalocyanines are better photosensitizers than bis phthalocyanines. Photophysical and photochemical properties of phthalocyanines are very useful for photodynamic therapy applications. Singlet oxygen quantum yields [Formula: see text] give an indication of the potential of the complexes as photosensitizers in photodynamic therapy applications. The chloro, fluoro, bromo-phenoxy–phenoxy substituted mono-(phthalocyaninato) lutetium(III) complexes (1-Cl and 1-F) gave good singlet oxygen quantum yields (from 0.86 to 0.80) in DMSO. Thus, these complexes show potential as Type II photosensitizers for PDT of cancer.

The synthesis and characterization of Cu-, Al-, Zn-, Ni-, Mn- complexes as substitutes for the Cr- and Co-complex acid azo dyes with lower toxicity was carried out and the subsequent use of ultra-filtration was studied with the aim of purifying the metal complex dyes and thus increasing dye strength and solubility and additionally reducing the free metal present in the final dye. A drastic reduction in the content of inorganic additives and free metal was achieved by the ultra-filtration process. The ultra-filtrated and non-ultra-filtrated dyes were used to dye wool and nylon fabrics. Color measurements and fastness properties were performed on the dyeings produced on wool and polyamide and compared with the Cr-complex dyeing, thus examining the possibility of using successfully these complex dyes as possible replacement of the Cr- and Co-complex dyes.
