AbstractThe diffraction, reflection, absorption, fluorescence, and the electronic emission that results from the interaction with ultrasoft X-rays (λ > 10 A) are presented as practical bases for microanalysis. Recent developments on sources and detectors for the ultrasoft X-radiations are described. A preliminary report on a current investigation on low-energy photo-Auger electron analysis and on a new type of low-energy electron spectrometer is also presented.

A new type of graft copolymer, sulfonated humic acid-acrylic acid resin (SHA), was synthesized and developed as dispersant for highly-loaded coal water slurry (CWS) from Chinese Binchang coal. In this study, The formulation, stability and rheology of the slurry with SHA were investigated. The experimental results show that SHA can reduce effectively CWS viscosity at low dosage, and that the CWS with SHA has excellent stability within 48 h and exhibits shear-thinning apparent viscosity/shear rate behavior. Based on the above, SHA is a promising dispersant for highly-loaded CWS in the practical use in industry.

The ethyl glycol vinyl ether polyoxyethylene ether (EPEG) is a new type of macromonomer to synthesize polycarboxylate superplasticizer (PCE), which has higher reactivity due to the unsaturated double bond and easily to polymerization. The EPEG slump retaining typed PCE can be synthesized by free radical polymerization though EPEG, acrylic acid and hydroxyethyl acrylate (HEA). The HEA had the greatest influence on slump retaining performance. High polymerization conversion rate of EPEG typed PCE was beneficial to improve the concrete performance.
