The Relationship

We have studied the relationship between the π-topology and the photo-excited high-spin states of π-conjugated spin systems, 9-anthracen-(3-phenyl-t-butylnitroxide) radical (1m) and 9-anthracen-(4-phenyl-t-butylnitroxide) radical (1p) systems, by time-resolved ESR and transient absorption spectroscopies.

The high-spin structure of 193Hg was investigated by in-beam γ-ray spectro­scopic techniques. The tandem accelerator at Daresbury Laboratory, U. K., was used to populate excited states of 193Hg through the reaction 150Nd(48Ca,5n)193Hg at a beam energy of 213 MeV and the EUROGAM detector array was used to de­ tect the γ-rays emitted by the deexciting nuclei. The normal level scheme has been further extended and a new band has been observed. In addition two new ΔI=1 structures of competing dipole and quadrupole transitions were found which will be discussed in detail.

Level schemes of even–even neutron-rich 88-92 Kr and 86 Se have been investigated by measuring triple-γ coincidence data from the spontaneous fission of 252 Cf with the Gammasphere detector array. The level scheme of 88 Kr has been extended up to 7169 keV state. Several new excited states with new transitions have been identified in 90,92 Kr and 86 Se . Spins and parities have been assigned to levels in these nuclei by following regional systematics and angular correlation measurements. The level structures of the N = 52, 54, Se , Kr , and Sr isotones are discussed.

Almost All

More than 100 excited states of the Calcium-40 nucleus, with isospin 0, are classified into rotational–vibrational bands of an intrinsic tetrahedral structure. Almost all observed states below 8[Formula: see text]MeV can be accommodated, as well as many high-spin states above 8[Formula: see text]MeV. The bands have some similarity to those classifying states of Oxygen-16, but the A-mode vibrational frequency is lower relative to the E-mode and F-mode frequencies than in Oxygen-16. Previously identified rotational bands up to spin 16 and energy above 20[Formula: see text]MeV are unified here into a smaller number of tetrahedral bands.

The decay of 32 s 90Kr and 154 s 90Rb has been studied using NE102 beta detectors and NaI(Tl) and Ge(Li) gamma-ray detectors, singly and in coincidence. Thirteen excited states of 90Rb involving 35 transitions have been identified with excitation energies of 0.1064, 0.1215, 0.2419, 0.3557, 0.6144, 0.6610, 0.7408, 0.8375, 1.2402, 1.6740(1+), 1.7798(1+), 2.1261(1+), and 3.0937(1+) MeV. The 256 s isomeric state at an excitation of 0.1064 MeV (probably 4–) feeds high spin states of 90Sr at 2.2068, 2.4972, 2.5712, 2.9275, 3.5835, 4.1485, 4.3355, and 5.0397 MeV with a total intensity of 12%. The 154 s ground state of 90Rb feeds many low spin states in 90Sr, including the levels at 0.8315, 1.6555, 1.8921, 2.5271, 3.0385, 3.3833, 3.4497, 3.8985, 4.0325, 4.0360, 4.1360, 4.3660, 4.6466, 4.891, 4.921, 4.974, 5.070, 5.091, 5.163, 5.1876, 5.2540, 5.285, and 5.3336 MeV. Sixty-four transitions in 90Sr have been classified in this manner. The decay energy of 90Kr is 4.41 ± 0.03 MeV.
