Two novel mixed 1D–2D coordination polymers based on 2D [Ln(4,4′-bpdo)2(NO3)2(H2O)2]+n sheets and 1D [Ln2(4,4′-bpdo)2(C4AS)(NO3)(H2O)9]n chains (Ln = Sm for 1 and Ln = Nd for 2) sustained by π⋯π interactions and lattice water facilitated hydrogen bonds have been established.

In the title compound, C21H18N6·H2O, two 4,4′-dipyridylamine groups are linked by a methylene C atom, which sits on a twofold axis. The lattice water molecule is located slightly off a twofold axis, and is therefore disordered over two positions. In the crystal, the organic molecules and the water molecule are linked by O—H...N hydrogen bonds. The organic molecules exhibit extensive offset face-to-face π–π interactions to symmetry equivalents [centroid–centroid distances = 3.725 (3) and 4.059 (3) Å].

In the complex cation of the title compound, [Mn(C7H5O4)(C12H8N2)2(H2O)](C7H5O4)·0.5H2O, the MnII atom has a six-coordinate octahedral environment defined by one carboxylate O atom belonging to a 2,6-dihydroxybenzoate (DHB) ligand, four N atoms from two chelating 1,10-phenanthroline molecules and one water molecule. The lattice water molecule lies on a twofold rotation axis. Intramolecular O—H...O hydrogen bonds are present in the DHB anions and complex cations. Intermolecular O—H...O hydrogen bonds link two cations, two anions and one water molecule into a dimer. π–π interactions between the pyridine and benzene rings and between the benzene rings are also observed [centroid–centroid distances = 3.7774 (16), 3.7912 (16) and 3.7310 (17) Å].

Five new LnCPs decorated with H2tdc and oxalate mixed ligands exhibit a 2D sql layer structure, then the 2D layers are further linked by intermolecule hydrogen bonds to form a 3D supramolecular network with sxb topology.

In the title compound, C19H23N5 2+·2Cl−·2H2O, the two pyridine side arms are not coplanar, with the terminal pyridine rings subtending a dihedral angle of 26.45 (6)°. In the crystal, hydrogen bonds, intermolecular C—H...Cl contacts and a weak C—H...O interaction connect the molecule with neighbouring chloride counter-anions and lattice water molecules. The crystal packing also features by π–π interactions with centroid-centroid distances of 3.4864 (12) and 3.5129 (13) Å.

The novel asymmetric bridging ligand 1-[(pyridin-3-yl)methyl]-2-[4-(pyridin-3-yl)phenyl]-1H-benzimidazole (L) has been used to construct the coordination polymerscatena-poly[[[dibromidocadmium(II)]-μ3-1-[(pyridin-3-yl)methyl]-2-[4-(pyridin-3-yl)phenyl]-1H-benzimidazole] monohydrate], {[CdBr2(C24H18N4)]·H2O}n, (I), andcatena-poly[[diiodidocadmium(II)]-μ3-1-[(pyridin-3-yl)methyl]-2-[4-(pyridin-3-yl)phenyl]-1H-benzimidazole], [CdI2(C24H18N4)]n, (II). Compounds (I) and (II) are closely related one-dimensional polymers based on 16- and 20-membered macrocycles along the chains, but they are not isomorphous. The chains are crosslinked into a two-dimensional networkviahydrogen bonds and π–π interactions in (I), and into a three-dimensional framework through π–π interactions in (II). One well-ordered solvent water molecule per asymmetric unit is included in (I) and forms O...Br hydrogen bonds.
