Stabiliser-free zinc oxide quantum dots have been utilised as a greener sensing platform for the quantification of arsenic at the parts-per-billion level. The method is free from common interference and applicable for real sample analysis.

The fluorescence sensing properties of a naphthalene-based acetohydrazide (3) were investigated. A highly selective “turn-on” response was obtained towards Al3+ ions, and this was used for real sample analysis and development of paper test strips.

A fluorescent-colorimetric azo dye based bis-Schiff base chemosensor, L, has been developed. L can selectively detect S2− through a color change from yellow to orange in perfect aqueous solution by deprotonation mechanism.
