Highly efficient perovskite solar cells based on a nanostructured WO3–TiO2core–shell electron transporting material

A novel core–shell nanostructured WO3is investigated in detail and shown to work successfully as an electron transporting material in hybrid perovskite solar cells. A thin TiO2shell reduces charge recombination while highly textured single-crystal WO3nanostructures promote fast electron transport leading to an efficiency above 11%.

Compared to the fast electron transport in perovskite and rapid electron injection from perovskite to TiO2nanoparticle scaffold, the slower electron transport rate in mesoporous TiO2is reported to be a hindrance factor for power conversion efficiency.

Mesoporous TiO2 microbead films have been investigated as working electrode for solid state dye sensitized solar cells and 3.5% efficiency was achieved. Low trap density of microbead film leads to high voltage and fast electron transport.
