Two Ru-based dyes SJW-B18 and CYC-B11H were prepared and their photovoltaic performance was explored. IMPS/IMVS data reveal that the physical insulation of the TiO2 surface with four alkyl groups on SJW-B18 can reduce the charge recombination to improve Voc and efficiency of the device based on cobalt electrolyte.
