The new symmetric acyclic N,N’-bis(1-pyrenyl) squaramide (H2L) functionalized with the pyrene moiety as a fluorogenic fragment has been designed and its ability to selectively detect specific anions and metals investigated. H2L selectively binds Cl− both in solution (DMSO 0.5% H2O and MeCN) and in the solid state, and allows to selectively detect Cu2+ in MeCN with the formation of a 2:1 metal-receptor complex, with a green intense emission appreciable by naked eye under the UV lamp. The H2L copper complex preserves its emission properties in the presence of Cl−. The addition of basic anions (OH−, CN−, and F−) up to 10 equivalents caused the deprotonation of the squaramide NHs and a dramatic change of the emission properties of the H2L copper complex.

Herein, we present minimalistic single-benzene, excited-state intramolecular proton transfer (ESIPT) based fluorophores as powerful solid state emitters. The very simple synthesis gave access to all four regioisomers of nitrile-substituted 2(oxazolinyl)phenols (MW = 216.1). In respect of their emission properties they can be divided into aggregation-induced emission enhancement (AIEE) luminophores (1-CN and 2-CN), dual state emission (DSE) emitters (3-CN) and aggregation-caused quenching (ACQ) fluorophores (4‐CN). Remarkably, with compound 1-CN we discovered a minimalistic ESIPT based fluorophore with extremely high quantum yield in the solid state ΦF = 87.3% at λem = 491 nm. Furthermore, quantum yields in solution were determined up to ΦF = 63.0%, combined with Stokes shifts up till 11.300 cm–1. Temperature dependent emission mapping, crystal structure analysis and time-dependent density functional theory (TDDFT) calculations gave deep insight into the origin of the emission properties.<br>

AbstractHerein we report on the synthesis of perylene diimide (PDI) based P1 and P2 conjugated polymers via Suzuki polymerization. The chemical structure of the polymers was elucidated using GPC, 1H, 13C NMR and elemental analysis. The absorption spectra of polymers were in the visible region from 250 – 800 nm in solution and in solid state. The optical band gap was (Egopt) found to be between 1.60 – 1.83 eV in solid state.
