Carbon capture and storage (CCS) is one of the technologies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) tocapture of CO2 from the flue gas of a power plant that typically use coal as a Source of energy and then store it ina suitable geological storage (in specific locations). In practice, these sites may not be readily available forstorage at the same time that the Sources (GHG producing) are operating which gives rise to multi – periodplanning problems. This study presents a mathematical approach by considering constraints limit flowratereceived by Sink, various time availability of Sink and Source and calculation with the purpose to determine theminimum cost network which is getting the maximum load that is exchanged from Source to Sink. Illustrativecase studies are given to demonstrate the application of mathematical models to obtained with the exact result ofthe exchange network from Source to Sink. Derived from network obtained from the calculation of theMaximum Load Source to Sink and results may vary in accordance with the limitations that exist in themathematical model. The case study has been prepared with 2 cases, first 6 Source and 3 Sink with value ofSource Load is greater than the amount available on the Sink. Also, second case is 2 Source and 5 Sinkwithvalue of Source Load is smaller than the amount available on the Sink. In addition, Case Studies tominimize the cost of pipeline construction and distribution of CO2 by plant and storage location determination inJava. Flowrate restriction factor that goes into Sink, Source and Sink establishment time and cost are taken intoaccount can affect the networks that can be exchanged from the Source to the Sink.

Prospective energy scenarios usually rely on Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR) technologies to achieve the climate goals of the Paris Agreement. CDR technologies aim at removing CO2 from the atmosphere in a permanent way. However, the implementation of CDR technologies typically comes along with unintended environmental side-effects such as land transformation or water consumption. These need to be quantified before large-scale implementation of any CDR option by means of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA). Direct Air Carbon Capture and Storage (DACCS) is considered to be among the CDR technologies closest to large-scale implementation, since first pilot and demonstration units have been installed and interactions with the environment are less complex than for biomass related CDR options. However, only very few LCA studies - with limited scope - have been conducted so far to determine the overall life-cycle environmental performance of DACCS. We provide a comprehensive LCA of different low temperature DACCS configurations - pertaining to solid sorbent-based technology - including a global and prospective analysis.

Cement manufacturing is one of the most energy and CO2 intensive industries. With the growth of cement production, CO2 emissions are increasing rapidly too. Carbon capture and storage is the most feasible new technology option to reduce CO2 emissions in the cement industry. More research on environmental impacts is required to provide the theoretical basis for the implementation of carbon capture and storage in cement production. In this paper, GaBi software and scenario analysis were employed to quantitatively analyze and compare the environmental impacts of cement production with and without carbon capture and storage technology, from the perspective of a life-cycle assessment; aiming to promote sustainable development of the cement industry. Results of two carbon capture and storage scenarios show decreases in the impacts of global warming potential and some environmental impacts. However, other scenarios show a significant increase in other environmental impacts. In particular, post-combustion carbon capture technology can bring a more pronounced increase in toxicity potential. Therefore, effective measures must be taken into account to reduce the impact of toxicity when carbon capture and storage is employed in cement production. CO2 transport and storage account for only a small proportion of environmental impacts. For post-combustion carbon capture, most of the environmental impacts come from the unit of combined heat and power and carbon capture, with the background production of MonoEthanolAmine contributing significantly. In combined heat and power plants, natural gas is more advantageous than a 10% coal-saving, and thermal efficiency is a key parameter affecting the environmental impacts. Future research should focus on exploring cleaner and effective absorbents or seeking the alternative fuel in combined heat and power plants for post-combustion carbon capture. If the power industry is the first to deploy carbon capture and storage, oxy-combustion carbon capture is an excellent choice for the cement industry.
