Ultra high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) was modified by 20 % methyl-methacrylate (MMA). Specimens were examined by two directional tribological wearing methods. Wear resistance of the modified materials was found to be increased by 38 %. Despite the promising results further experiments are needed to utilize it as human implant.

AbstractABA and/or ABC type triblock copolymers were synthesized by living anionic and controlled radical polymerization in which poly(methyl methacrylate) was used as central block. The structural composition of these block copolymers were determined by 1H NMR. The block length/molecular weight and microstructure of these polymers were measured by SEC. The microstructure of resultant central alkyl methacrylate block can be tailored from highly syndiotactic to highly isotactic structure by varying the solvent and/or initiator. The thermal and rheological properties of center poly(methyl methacrylate) block and poly(styreneb- methyl methacrylate-b- styrene) tri block copolymers were studied in detail.

Novel titanium complex [2-O-(5- NO2)C6H3CH=N[(C6H4) –2-O ]]2TiCl2 (1) has been prepared by treatment of the ligand complex 1a with TiCl4•2THF in dichloromethane solution. The complex 1a and 1 were characterized by 1H-NMR . Activated by MAO, Complex 1 displayed very high activity for methyl methacrylate polymerization and the viscosity-average molecular weight of PMMA is more than 35×104 at 60°C.The molecular-weight distribution of PMMA measured by gel permeation chromatography (GPC) is narrow.
