Hydrophobic ILs based on cations with long alkyl side-chains are switchable ionic liquid/solid phases with temperature that behave as sponge-like systems (Sponge-Like Ionic Liquids, SLILs), being applied for producing pure liquid compounds (e.g. biodiesel, etc).

Abstract The beneficial combination of microwave (MW) and ionic liquid (IL) additives was exploited in the direct esterification of a series of acyclic phosphinic and phosphonic acids giving rise to phenyl-H-phosphinates/methyl-phenylphosphinates/diphenylphosphinates and phenylphosphonic mono- and diesters, respectively. The latter is the first example for the direct esterification of a phosphonic acid.

This paper proposes a novel soft ionic liquid (IL) electrically functional device that displays resistive memory characteristics using poly(acrylic acid) partial sodium salt (PAA-Na+:H2O) solution gel and sodium hydroxide (NaOH) in a thin polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) cylindrical microchannel.
