Some of the data collection details for compound (VIII) were incorrectly given in Table 1 of Godino Salido et al. (2004). The data for compound VIII in this paper were collected using synchrotron radiation at the Daresbury SRS station 9.8, λ = 0.6935 Å (Cernik et al., 1997; Clegg, 2000). The data were collected using a Bruker SMART 1K CCD diffractometer using ω rotation with narrow frames. The computer program used in the data collection was SMART (Bruker, 2001) and for cell refinement and data reduction SAINT (Bruker, 2001).

Two new Na and K coordination polymers with halogen bond, metallophilic and hydrogen bonding interactions were synthesized. These two compounds were synthesized sonochemically and solid-state conversions of them to each other were investigated.

A series of M(ii) coordination polymers has been synthesized. 1–3 contain 1D infinite chains, and these 1D chains are further linked by hydrogen bonding to form 3D supramolecular networks. While 4 and 5 show tetra- or penta-nodal 3D network, respectively.

Abstract Three new coordination polymers have been prepared by hydrothermal reaction of squaric acid, pyrazine and the metal halides FeCl2 · 4H2O, CoBr2 and NiBr2. In their crystal structures the metal atoms are coordinated by four water molecules and two pyrazine ligands within slightly distorted octahedra. The pyrazine ligands connect the metal atoms via μ-N,N’-coordination to linear chains which are connected via hydrogen bonding. The squarate dianions are not coordinated to the metal atoms and are located between the chains. The thermal behaviour of all compounds was investigated using TG-DTA-MS measurements. A complex behaviour for all compounds is found and the decomposition temperatures increase from Fe to Ni. From these investigations there are no hints for the occurrence of stoichiometric intermediate compounds.
