The paper presents the preliminary research results of the influence of the chemical composition of the two-component nitriding atmospheres on the structure and properties of the nitrided layers in the surfaces of the blind holes. The results showed that the utilization during the heating-up stage of in the controlled gas nitriding process the two-component atmospheres NH3 + NH3diss enables the production of the nitrided layers with a limited thickness of an iron nitrides layer as well as and a sufficiently high hardness on the surfaces of the blind holes. The nitrided layers obtained on the surfaces of the blind holes, depending on the position in the hole, show similar differentiation of the structures and properties, regardless of the dilution rate of ammonia in the atmospheres that were used during the heating-up stage. This differentiation is caused by the weak inflow of the fresh nitriding atmosphere to the interior of the blind holes due to their small diameters, which in turn is manifested as a gradual slowdown of the growth kinetics, a reduction of the thickness and hardness of a nitrided layer along with the increase in the depth of the blind holes.

The structure and properties of in situ Cu-Nb composites have been studied by the methods of TEM and SEM, X-ray analysis and mechanical testing. The evolution of Nb filaments structure at drawing and the effect of annealing and doping with Zr on the composites structure and texture have been investigated. Sharp fibre texture with <110>Nb develops in the ribbon-shaped Nb filaments, while the Cu matrix possesses a two-component fibre texture, <111>Cu and <100>Cu, appreciably affected by annealing. Annealing results in softening due to Nb filaments coagulation. In Zr doped composites two types of ZrO2 particles are observed, dispersed and coarse ones. The former result in the dispersion strengthening, while the latter may cause embrittlement.

There are certain visual double stars which, when close to a node of their relative orbit, should have enough radial velocity difference (10-20 km/s) that the spectra of the two component stars will appear resolved on high-dispersion spectrograms (5 Å/mm or less) obtainable by use of modern coudé and solar spectrographs on bright stars. Both star images are then recorded simultaneously on the spectrograph slit, so that two stellar components will appear on each spectrogram.

Addition of lithocholic acid (LCA), a naturally occurring bile acid in mammals, to a low protein diet fed to rats induced marked inflammatory reaction in the hepatic cells followed by hydropic degeneration and ductular cell proliferation. These changes were accompanied by dilatation and hyperplasia of the common bile duct and formation of “gallstones”. All these changes were reversible when LCA was withdrawn from the low protein diet except for the hardened gallstones which persisted.Electron microscopic studies revealed marked alterations in the hepatic cells. Early changes included disorganization, fragmentation of the rough endoplasmic reticulum and detachment of its ribosomes. Free ribosomes, either singly or arranged in small clusters were frequently seen in most of the hepatic cells. Vesiculation of the smooth endoplasmic reticulum was often encountered as early as one week after the administration of LCA (Fig. 1).
