<div><div><div><p>The structural features of a series of diverse Deep Eutectic Solvents (DESs) have been investigated and characterized by means of two fluorescent probes. The spectral and photophysical properties of the latter are strictly dependent on the experienced environment, so that they can provide insights into the polarity, viscosity, hydrogen-bond network, and micro-heterogeneity of the various DESs.</p><p>In fact, the investigated DESs exhibit a variety of properties with regards to their hydrophilicity, acidity, and hydrogen-bond ability, and these details were deeply probed by the two fluorescent molecules. The effect of the addition of water, which is a key strategy for tuning the properties of these structured systems, was also tested. In particular, the excited state dynamics of the probes, measured by femtosecond-resolved transient absorption, proved instrumental in understanding the changes in the structural properties of the DESs, namely reduced viscosity and enhanced heterogeneity, as the water percentage increases. Differences between the various DESs in terms of both local microheterogeneity and bulk viscosity also emerged from the peculiar multi-exponential solvation dynamics undergone by the excited states of the probes.</p></div></div></div>

The paper evaluates the effectiveness of the use of graphene nanostructures in the purification of lead (II) ions to improve the ecological situation of water bodies. The mechanisms and characteristic parameters of the adsorption process were analyzed using empirical models of isotherms at temperatures of 298, 303, 313 and 323 K, which correspond to the following order (based on the correlation coefficient): Langmuir (0.99) > Temkin (0.97) > Dubinin – Radushkevich (0.90). The maximum adsorption capacity of the material corresponds to the range from 230 to 260 mg/g. We research the equilibrium at the level of thermodynamic parameter estimates, which indicates the spontaneity of the process, the endothermic nature and structure change of graphene modified with phenol-formaldehyde resin during the adsorption of lead (II) ions, leading to an increase in the disorder of the system.

The removal of Cd(II) and Pb(II) ions from aqueous medium was studied using potato peels biomass. The adsorption process was evaluated using Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer (AAS). The Vibrational band of the potato peels was studied using Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR). The adsorption process was carried out with respect to concentration, time, pH, particle size and the thermodynamic evaluation of the process was carried at temperatures of 30, 40, 50 and 60(0C), respectively. The FTIR studies revealed that the potato peels was composed of –OH, -NH, –C=N, –C=C and –C-O-C functional groups. The optimum removal was obtained at pH 8 and contact time of 20 min. The adsorption process followed Freundlich adsorption and pseudo second-order kinetic models with correlation coefficients (R2) greater than 0.900. The equilibrium adsorption capacity showed that Pb(II) ion was more adsorbed on the surface of the potato peels biomass versus Cd (II) ion (200.91 mg/g &gt; 125.00 mg/g). The thermodynamic studies indicated endothermic, dissociative mechanism and spontaneous adsorption process. This study shows that sweet potato peels is useful as a low-cost adsorbent for the removal of Cd(II) and Pb(II) ions from aqueous medium.

Desulfurisation of atmospheric distillation gasoline and gas oil was performed by adsorption process on Fe/ bentonite. The adsorbent was characterized by determining the adsorption isotherms, specific surface area, pore volume and average pore diameter. Adsorption experiments of atmospheric distillation gasoline and gas oil were performed in continuous system at 280�320oC, 5 atm and volume hourly space velocities of 1�2 h-1. The efficiency of adsorption on Fe / bentonite was better at desulphurisation of gasoline versus gas oil.

In this study, non-irradiated and weathered multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) obtained through irradiation, were studied as adsorbents for BPA, both nanomaterials being characterized before and after the adsorption process. The objectives of our investigation were to compare the characteristics of non-irradiated and irradiated MWCNTs, to evaluate the adsorption capacity of BPA by pristine and irradiated MWCNTs and to determine the variation of the kinetic, sorption and thermodynamic parameters during sorption process using both sorbents.

Arsenic content in groundwater�s present a wide range of concentration, ranging from hundreds of micrograms to thousands of micrograms of arsenic per litter, while the maximum permitted arsenic concentration established by World Health Organization (WHO) is 10 mg L-1. According to the WHO all people, regardless of their stage of development and their social economic condition, have the right to have access to adequate drinking water. The most efficient and economic technique used for arsenic removal is represented by adsorption. In order to make this remediation technique more affordable and environmentally friendly is important to new materials with advance adsorbent properties. Novelty of present paper is represented by the usage of a new adsorbent material obtained by physical - chemical modification of Amberlite XAD polymers using crown ethers followed by iron doping, due to well-known affinity of arsenic for iron ions. Present paper aims to test the obtained modified Amberlite polymer for arsenic removal from real groundwater by using adsorption in a fixed bed column, establishing in this way a mechanism for the adsorption process. During experimental work was studied the influence of competing ions from real water into the arsenic adsorption process.

Steamed Hoof Powder (SHP), size &lt; 53μ, was observed to have high adsorption capacity for Hg(II) with &gt;95% removal from a solution containing 100 mg/L of Hg(II) with only 0.1% (W/V) concentration of SHP. The SHP has good settling properties and gives clear and odour free effluent. Studies indicate that pH values between 2 and 10 have no effect on the adsorption of Hg(II) on SHP. Light metal ions like Na+, K+, Ca2+ and Mg2+ up to concentrations of 500 mg/L and heavy metals like Cu2+, Zn2+, Cd2+, Co2+, Pb2+, Ni2+, Mn2+, Cr3+, Cr6+, Fe2+ and Fe3+ up to concentrations of 100 mg/L do not interfere with the adsorption process. Anions like sulphate, acetate and phosphate up to concentrations of 200 mg/L do not interfere. Chloride interferes in the adsorption process when Hg(II) concentration is above 9.7 mg/L. The adsorption equilibrium was established within two hours. Studies indicate that adsorption occurs on the surface sites of the adsorbent.

Background: The presence of pollutants in polluted water is not singularized hence pollutant species are constantly in competition for active sites during the adsorption process. A key advantage of competitive adsorption studies is that it informs on the adsorbent performance in real water treatment applications. Objective: This study aims to investigate the competitive adsorption of Pb(II), Cu(II), Fe(II) and Zn(II) using elephant grass (Pennisetum purpureum) biochar and hybrid biochar from LDPE. Method: The produced biochar was characterised by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR). The effect of adsorption parameters, equilibrium isotherm modelling and parametric studies were conducted based on data from the batch adsorption experiments. Results: For both adsorbents, the removal efficiency was >99% over the domain of the entire investigation for dosage and contact time suggesting that they are very efficient for removing multiple heavy metals from aqueous media. It was observed that removal efficiency was optimal at 2 g/l dosage and contact time of 20 minutes for both adsorbent types. The Elovich isotherm and the pseudo-second order kinetic models were best-fit for the competitive adsorption process. Conclusion: The study was able to successfully reveal that biomass biochar from elephant grass and hybrid biochar from LDPE can be used as effective adsorbent material for the removal of heavy metals from aqueous media. This study bears a positive implication for environmental protection and solid waste management.

Comparison Of The Results

Equations for a potentiostatic reaction with an adsorption process following Langmuir’s isotherm have been derived for the expanding sphere with any power law electrode model. This model is very general and includes, among others, the following ones: (a) stationary plane; (b) stationary sphere; (c) expanding plane; and (d) expanding sphere. Characteristics of these solutions and the behavior of the corresponding asymptotic solutions are discussed. A comparison of the results obtained for plane and spherical electrodes has also been performed.
