The nonlinear optical properties, absorbance and fluorescence spectra of Erythrosin B (ErB) aqueous solution in different CTAB concentration was studied. Z-scan technique under laser light excitation at 532 nm, was used for study reverse saturable absorption (RSA) of ErB. it was observed that the RSA of solution depend on CTAB concentration. A enhancing of absorbance and quenching of fluorescence is observed with increase of CTAB concentration in solution and the RSA can reduce the fluorescence intensity. It was proposed that the micelle can reduce the dye aggregation is solutions and it can affect on linear and nonlinear optical properties of ErB.

The third order nonlinear optical properties of two different sized carboxylate-modified microspheres are investigated at different pump powers. The nonlinear absorption (NLA) is measured at 532 nm using 10 Hz, 7 ns pulses from the second harmonic generated from a Q-switched Nd -YAG laser in an open aperture Z-scan setup. The nonlinear response is size-dependent, and switching from reverse saturable absorption (RSA) to saturable absorption (SA) is observed as the size increases.

In this study, 8-(4-methoxyphenyl)-6-oxo-3-p-tolyl-6H-pyrido[1,2-b][1,2,4]triazine-7,9-dicarbonitrile (A) was prepared and then the nonlinear optical properties of this compound, including nonlinear refractive index (n2) and nonlinear absorption coefficient (β) were measured using Z-scan technique by continuous wave laser diode at wavelengths of 405 and 532 nm. At wavelength of 532 nm, by increasing the incident intensity a switch over from saturable absorption (SA) to reverse saturable absorption (RSA) was observed. The results showed that the nonlinear optical properties of this compound depend on the wavelength. It was also observed that with decreasing incident intensity, the thermal nonlinear refractive coefficient increased accordingly, while its thermo-optic coefficient decreased. In addition, the third-order susceptibility of this compound in wavelength of 532 nm was obtained higher than 405 nm.

The nonlinear-optical properties of metal Ag colloidal solutions, which were prepared by the reduction of silver nitrate, were investigated using Z-scan method. Under picosecond 532 nm excitation, the Ag colloidal solution exhibited negative nonlinear refractive index (n2=−5.17×10−4 cm2/W) and reverse saturable absorption coefficient (β=4.32 cm/GW). The data fitting result of optical limiting (OL) response of metal Ag colloidal solution indicated that the nonlinear absorption was attributed to two-photon absorption effect at 532 nm. Moreover, the fluorescence emission spectra of Ag colloidal solution were recorded under excitations at both 280 nm and 350 nm. Two fluorescence peaks, 336 nm and 543 nm for 280 nm excitation, while 544 nm and 694 nm for 350 nm excitation, were observed.

AbstractThe nonlinear optical effects of chlorophyll ‘a’ have been determined using an array of measurement techniques. Regions of spectral interest exhibiting induced excited state absorption were identified with transient absorption spectroscopy measurements. At specific wavelengths within these regions, the dye was characterised using the Z-scan technique. Additional measurements were made to complement the latter results including a focused aperture experiment in which thermal defocusing and scattering mechanisms were identified.

Abstract Bismuth telluride nanoparticles (NPs) attract attention due to the growth of sensitivity of the Bi2Te3 NPs-containing registrars in the near- and mid-infrared ranges. We describe the synthesis and characterization of these structures and analyze the low-order nonlinear optical properties of the colloidal suspensions and thin films containing Bi2Te3 NPs using 1064 and 532 nm, 10 ns pulses. Colloidal Bi2Te3 NPs demonstrate saturable absorption and positive nonlinear refraction (saturation intensity 7 × 108 W cm−2, nonlinear absorption coefficient β SA = −7 × 10−8 cm W−1, nonlinear refractive index γ = 9 × 10−12 cm2 W−1), while at stronger excitation by 532 nm, 10 ns pulses the reverse saturable absorption dominates over other nonlinear optical processes. We achieved significant growth of the nonlinear optical parameters of the thin films containing these NPs (film thickness l = 60 nm, β SA = −1.2 × 10−4 cm W−1, γ = 5 × 10−7 cm2 W−1 in the case of 532 nm probe radiation and β = −5 × 10−5 cm W−1, γ = 6 × 10−8 cm2 W−1 in the case of 1064 nm probe radiation) compared with colloidal Bi2Te3 NPs and discuss the observed peculiarities of the nonlinear response of Bi2Te3 nanostructures.
