The formation of single phase solid solution in High Entropy Alloys (HEAs) is essential for the properties of the alloys therefore, numerous approach were proposed by many researchers to predict the stability of single phase solid solution in High Entropy Alloy. The present review examines some of the recent developments while using computational intelligence techniques such as parametric approach, CALPHAD, Machine Learning etc. for prediction of various phase formation in multicomponent high entropy alloys. A detail study of this data-driven approaches pertaining to the understanding of structural and phase formation behaviour of a new class of compositionally complex alloys is done in the present investigation. The advantages and drawbacks of the various computational are also discussed. Finally, this review aims at understanding several computational modeling tools complying the thermodynamic criteria for phase formation of novel HEAs which could possibly deliver superior mechanical properties keeping an aim at advanced engineering applications.

Abstract The focus of this study is the formation of a solid solution and metallic nickel in the cobalt-nickel mixed oxide coatings during suspension plasma spray (SPS) deposition. The (Co,Ni)O solid solution is a potential material for inert anode applications in aluminum production. SPS coatings and in-flight collected particles are studied to gain further insight into the melting and mixing phenomena of the NiO and CoO powders as well as phase formation in the deposited coatings. Moreover, the role of suspension feedstock particle sizes on the microstructure of coatings is discussed. SEM, EDS and X-ray diffraction studies helped better understanding the formation of different crystalline phases within the as-sprayed coatings. It was found that the formation of metallic nickel is possible in the coatings. The results support the importance of substrate temperature on the formation of metallic Ni, so that keeping the substrate at low temperature results in an increase of the Ni content in the coatings. In this study, possible causes for the formation of metallic Ni during spraying are discussed.

Phase-formation and luminescence depend on the Mn2+ contents in Mg2P2O7–Mn2P2O7 solid-solution. The mixed pyrophosphate of α- and β-phases shows the best luminescence, high thermal stability and efficient excitation in UV and near UV region.
