Abstract. We analyze coupled Alfvén and slow magnetosonic eigenmodes in a dipole geomagnetic field with different ionospheric conductivities in the framework of ideal magnetic hydrodynamics (MHD) with finite pressure. We use numerical and, if possible, analytical methods to describe eigenmode frequencies, growth rates and eigenfunctions. The spectrum of Alfvén and slow magnetosonic modes is discrete and equidistant. The frequencies of the first Alfvén and slow magnetosonic eigenmodes are estimated as ~1 Hz and ~1 mHz, respectively. In the case of finite conductivity, periodic and aperiodic modes are separated and their interaction analyzed. It was shown that periodic and aperiodic perturbations can mutually transform into each other. A new flute stability criterion is derived (α~4.25), which is stricter than the Gold criterion (α=20/3). Here, as usual, α=−L/p dp/dL. For flute perturbations, the deviations of transversal displacement from a constant are calculated. An approximation for longitudinal displacement is derived. We determined the position of the main longitudinal peak, which can be responsible for nonlinear structures observed by Freja. An influence of nonlinear terms in pressure is estimated as well.

In this work, I study the propagation of cosmic rays inside the magnetic field of the Earth, at distances d ≤ 500 Km from its surface; at these distances, the geomagnetic field deeply influences the diffusion motion of the particles. I compare the different effects of the interplanetary and of the geomagnetic fields, by also discussing their role inside the cosmic rays transport equation; finally, I present an analytical method to solve such an equation through a factorization technique.

In the article, based on the analysis of the physical factors responsible for the parameters of space weather near the Earth, possible ways of influence of the geomagnetic field disturbances on the state of the human body and methods of untraditional medicine to prevent the negative impact of such disturbances, the conclusions about the possibility of using acupuncture in the prevention and elimination of such influence are made. and the ability to use plasma medicine to address these problems with high efficiency.

Abstract. It is well established that earthquakes and volcanic eruption can produce small variations in the local geomagnetic field. The Italian Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia (INGV) tectonomagnetic network was installed in Central Italy since 1989 to investigate possible effects on the local geomagnetic field related to earthquakes occurrences. At the present time, total geomagnetic field intensity data are collected in four stations using proton precession magnetometers. We report the complete dataset for the period of years 2004–2005. The data of each station are differentiated respect to the data of the other stations in order to detect local field anomalies removing the contributions from the other sources, external and internal to the Earth. Unfortunately, no correlation between geomagnetic anomalies and the local seismic activity, recorded in Central Italy by the INGV Italian Seismic National Network, was found in this period. Some deceptive structures present in the differentiated data are pointed out.

The archaeomagnetic studies carried out at the Schmidt Institute of Physics of the Earth of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IPE RAS) provided an important contribution to the international studies of the main magnetic field of the Earth for the past few thousand years. Extensive data on the intensity of geomagnetic field in the past 8000 years were obtained. Four most representative and long time series of the data have been constructed for Eurasia for the Iberian Peninsula, the Caucasus, Central Asia, and Siberia. Unique studies having no analogues in international research have been carried out into rapid variations in the geomagnetic field intensity with characteristic times starting from several tens of years. Based on the analysis of the international data on the ancient geomagnetic field, the spectrum of the variations in the geomagnetic field intensity with the periods ranging from decades to millennia was established and the characteristics ofthe variations whose superposition can describe the pattern of the changes of the geomagnetic field intensity were determined. It was found out that variations with different characteristic times have a differently directed drift, and the “main oscillation” with a characteristic time of 8000 years has an eastern drift.
