Unit hydrograph is a basic method to show changes in runoff in the watershed. The investigation of runoff changes was carried out in the U Dvou louček watershed situated at the summit part of the Orlické hory Mts., East Bohemia. The waveform ordinates of recession limbs of unit hydrographs obtained using a common approach had to be approximated by the least-squares method. Final hydrographs reflected both drainage treatment and forest stand growth influencing the runoff from the watershed. Both factors increase culmination in synergy and reduce runoff on the recession limb of the hydrograph. We confirmed increased maximum runoff taking up 25–30% of the total runoff time when waterlogged sites were drained. The culmination increased by 0.2–0.8 mm/hour indicates the runoff increased by 2–8 m<sup>3</sup>/ha/hr.

The problem of edge bias arising in the computation of individual tree competition in stand growth simulation models is discussed. The problem arises from difficulty in characterizing tree size and spatial patterns beyond the edge of the simulation plot. Various methods for reducing this bias are reviewed along with related assumptions and major sources of error. Methods which involve shifting the simulation plot image to form a set of border plots are judged best on the basis of likely bias reduction and the relative simplicity of introduced spatial pattern periodicity.

Until very recently foresters have relied on infrequent inventories to provide static descriptions of large forest areas for management planning. With the quantum increases in computing power, the massing of forestry data, and the increasing pressure for effective management planning, it is becoming necessary to view the forest as dynamic, and subject to manipulation for management purposes. Prediction of changes to forest structure and yield must be made to update old data and project stands into the future. This paper reviews the current sources of literature on growth and yield, discusses basic types and components of growth models, and gives some examples of important uses for growth and yield models. The future will see increased use of computers for analysis of forestry data including even more sophisticated growth and yield models linked to both inventory and decision making processes.

The paper presents an assessment of the growth dynamics of the modal fir plantations in the Lower Angara region. At present, a vast area of fir forests in the Lower Angara region is characterised by a significant decrease in sustainability due to periodic forest fires, insect pests outbreaks and diseases, which lead to their natural degradation and death. However, the intensity of coniferous stand growth in certain forest site characteristics persists in the long term. Therefore, creating regression models of forest growth and development involving the identification of site conditions is very important both from a practical point of view and for environmental monitoring. The materials of the mass inventory of 3491 stands served as the initial data for studying the processes of fir plantations natural growth. The Hoerl Model function is suitable for the best approximation of stand growth since it is characterised by high levelling factor (from 0.970 to 0.987) and a small standard error (not exceeding 7%). As a result of the research, there have been constructed sketches of the growth rate tables for the modal Siberian fir stands of the third bonitet class of the forb and mossy groups of forest types.

Изучены особенности роста главного и боковых побегов, а также биометрическая характеристика подроста ели при возрастной (сукцессионной) смене березняка черничного. Установлено, что при возрастной смене березняка рост и формирование еловой популяции обусловлены совместным онтогенезом производного древостоя и восстанавливающейся популяции ели, полнотой и сомкнутостью лиственного полога. На начальных этапах формирования березового древостоя рост ели определяется в основном факторами среды. Именно режим среды обусловливает особенности морфогенеза и роста ели в процессе формирования ее популяции. Ель, возобновившаяся до заселения вырубки лиственными породами или сразу после его окончания, формирует высокоактивную популяцию с высокими среднепериодическими приростами главного и боковых побегов. Уменьшение проникающей под полог формирующегося древостоя солнечной радиации с увеличением его возраста приводит к снижению роста ели, укорачиванию побегов, изменению биометрической характеристики. Максимальных значений (22,4 см в год) прирост верхушечного побега у ели достигает в насаждениях 6-8-летнего возраста при начальных этапах заселения вырубки лиственными породами. После смыкания лиственного полога детерминирующее положение в формировании еловой популяции принадлежит внутривидовой конкуренции, в результате которой крупные деревья подавляют развитие мелких деревьев, и верхнему пологу, препятствующему проникновению света и тепла под полог. Уже в 13-летнем возрасте березняка популяция ели испытывает неблагоприятное воздействие со стороны березы. С 20-25-летнего возраста березы начинается полное биологическое угнетение ели березой, которое продолжается вплоть до выхода ели в первый ярус. Для улучшения состояния ели, ускорения смены северных березняков ельниками необходимо своевременное осуществление мер содействия путем проведения рубок ухода. Уже в возрасте березы 20-25 лет требуется осветление ели. В спелом березняке первый прием постепенных рубок целесообразно начинать проводить в возрасте березы не позднее 50-60 лет, второй - через 8-10 лет. The peculiarities of growth of the main and lateral shoots and biometric characteristics of podologues ate with age (successional) changing birch blueberry. At the initial stages of the formation of birch forest stand growth spruce is determined mainly by environmental factors. Reduction penetrating under the canopy of the emerging tree of solar radiation with increasing age leads to reduced growth of spruce, the shortening of the main and lateral shoots, the deterioration of the biometric characteristics. Maximum values (22,4 cm per year) increase in apical shoots, the spruce reaches in plantations 6-8 years of age at the initial stages of settlement felling of deciduous species. After closing deciduous canopy determining the position in the formation of the spruce population belongs to intraspecific competition, which resulted in large trees inhibit the growth of smaller trees, and upper canopy, preventing the penetration of light and heat under the canopy. Already in the 13-year-old birch population ate experiencing adverse effects from birch. With 20-25 years of age birch begins full biological depression spruce birch, which continues until the output of spruce in the first tier. n mature birch first reception gradual cuttings advisable to start spending aged birch within 50-60 years, the second in 8-10 years.
