This study is related to the practice of slavery happened in indigenous communities in North Borneo since under the rule of the Sultanate of Sulu and Brunei. The aim of this study to see how slavery is considered as a unique practice and the slave role in daily life, including the type of slaves and relationship between the slave and their owners. This study will use information about slavery in North Borneo which are available from various sources such as diary, Official records of British North Borneo Chartered Company (BNBCC), Reports, News paper, Microfilm, books and articles. Slavery in North Borneo basically influenced by the role of datu’s and pengiran of the Sulu Sultanate and Brunei which sparked demand for slaves. This causes a form of slavery that occurred in the indigenous tribes such as Suluk, Bajau, Iranun, Dusun and Murut. The practice of slavery grow rapidly along with pirate activities which are intertwined with the slave trading in the Borneo sea. However, before settling by James Brooke in Sarawak and BNBCC in North Borneo, the abolition of slavery activities was implemented. Keywords: Slavery, Sulu, Brunei, Native, History, North Borneo, Abstrak: Kajian ini adalah berkaitan dengan amalan perhambaan yang berlaku dalam masyarakat peribumi di Borneo Utara sejak dibawah pengaruh Kesultanan Sulu dan Brunei. Kajian ini bertujuan untuk melihat bagaimana amalan perhambaan dianggap sebagai sebuah amalan yang unik dan peranan golongan hamba tersebut dalam kehidupan harian termasuklah jenis hamba dan bentuk hubungan di antara hamba itu sendiri dan pemilik hamba. Kajian ini akan menggunakan maklumat mengenai perhambaan di Borneo Utara yang boleh didapati daripada pelbagai sumber seperti catatan diari pegawai British, rekod-rekod Syarikat Berpiagam Borneo Utara British (SBBUB), laporan, akhbar, Mikrofilem, Buku-buku dan Artikel yang telah dihasilkan oleh sarjana awal. Perhambaan di Borneo Utara pada dasarnya banyak dipengaruhi oleh peranan pembesar daripada Kesultanan Sulu dan Brunei yang mencetuskan permintaan terhadap hamba. Hal tersebut menyebabkan wujud perhambaan yang berlaku dalam suku peribumi seperti Suluk, Bajau, Iranun, Dusun dan Murut. Amalan ini berkembang pesat bersama dengan aktiviti perlanunan yang saling berkait dengan perdagangan hamba di sekitar perairan Borneo. Namun demikian, menjelang pertapakan James Brooke di Sarawak serta SBBUB di Borneo Utara, penghapusan aktiviti perhambaan ini telah dijalankan. For countries in Southeast Asia that mainly rely on surface water as their water resource, changes in weather patterns and hydrological systems due to climate change will cause severely decreased water resource availability. Warm weather triggers more water use and exacerbates the extraction of water resources, which will change the operation patterns of water usage and increase demand, resulting in water scarcity. The occurrence of prolonged drought upsets the balance between water supply and demand, significantly increasing the vulnerability of regions to damaging impacts. The objectives of this study are to identify trends and determine the impacts of extreme drought events on water levels for the major important water dams in the northern part of Borneo, and to assess the risk of water insecurity for the dams. In this context, remote sensing images are used to determine the degree of risk of water insecurity in the regions. Statistical methods are used in the analysis of daily water levels and rainfall data. The findings show that water levels in dams on the North and Northeast Coasts of Borneo are greatly affected by the extreme drought climate caused by the Northeast Monsoon, with mild to the high risk recorded in terms of water insecurity, with only two of the water dams being water-secure. This study shows how climate change has affected water availability throughout the regions.

Abstract A description is provided for Calonectria rigidiuscula[Nectria rigidiuscula]. Information is included on the disease caused by the organism, its transmission, geographical distribution, and hosts. HOSTS: On Theobroma cacao and many other hosts represented by the following families: Anonaceae, Anacardiaceae, Apocynaceae, Bombacaceae, Euphorbiaceae, Gramineae, Leguminosae, Malvaceae, Meliaceae, Moraceae, Sterculiaceae, Tiliaceae. Also pathogenic on wound inoculation to hosts in the above and following additional families: Bignoniaceae and Ulmaceae (31: 232). DISEASES: Causing die-back and canker of branches associated with capsid injury, 'green-point' cushion gall of buds, and pod rot of cacao; panel decay of Hevea rubber associated with Pbytophthora spp. ; stem canker of robusta coffee associated with Xyleborus morstatta; stem rot of durian; and blight of rice plants including grain. GEOGRAPHICAL DISTRIBUTION: Africa (Cameroons, Central African Republic, Congo, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Madagascar, Nigeria, Sierra Leone); North America [United States (Okla.)]; Central America and West Indies (British Guiana, Costa Rica, Grenada, Guatemala, Honduras, Panama, Trinidad); South America (Argentina, Colombia, Surinam, Venezuela); Asia (Ceylon, India, Indo-China, Java, Malaya, Philippines); Australasia & Oceania (New Caledonia, North Borneo, Tahiti). TRANSMISSION: By air-borne spores, either microconidia produced on recently infected tissue of injured, living stems, or macroconidia from sporodochia on recently dead stems, or ascospores from perithecia produced on long dead stems or cracks in bark (25: 548). The pathogen has been transmitted to cacao cotyledons by means of mealybugs (Pseudococcus njalensis[Planococcoides njalensis] and Ferrisiana virgata[Ferrisia virgata]) in the laboratory, but not elsewhere. Also a soil invader commonly recovered from previous sites of cacao (13: 128, 594) or coffee plantations (34: 179), and in grassland areas (33: 687); seed-borne on rice (32: 449).
