Abstract. The cube construction task represents a novel format in the assessment of spatial ability through mental cube rotation tasks. Instead of selecting the correct answer from several response options, respondents construct their own response in a computerized test environment, leading to a higher demand for spatial ability. In the present study with a sample of 146 German high-school students, we tested an approach to manipulate the item difficulties in order to create items with a greater difficulty range. Furthermore, we compared the cube task in a distractor-free and a distractor-based version while the item stems were held identical. The average item difficulty of the distractor-free format was significantly higher than in the distractor-based format ( M = 0.27 vs. M = 0.46) and the distractor-free format showed a broader range of item difficulties (.02 ≤  pi ≤ .95 vs. .37 ≤  pi ≤ .63). The analyses of the test results also showed that the distractor-free format had a significantly higher correlation with a broad intelligence test ( r = .57 vs. r = .17). Reasons for the higher convergent validity of the distractor-free format (prevention of response elimination strategies and the broader range of item difficulties) and further research possibilities are discussed.

Taking practical responsible decisions in the field of social and industrial management in the context of rapid development of digital technologies in the era of the knowledge economy is impossible without reliance on expertise. A kind of organization of activities for the production of ‘predictions’ is required, when not only an accurate assessment of the impact of certain factors and their possible interactions with each other is given, but also as a result of creative construction of scenarios for the development of processes and events, an understanding comes which factors need to be taken into account. At the same time, the expertise constantly faces criticism, calling the conclusions of experts arbitrary, unreliable and subjective. Often, expertise is confused with monitoring, evaluation, diagnosis, inspection or counseling. The authors of the article carried out a structural analysis of the content of the expertise processes in the project management vector in the digitalization era and came to the conclusion that the effectiveness of the expertise is significantly increased in case of clear regulation of this type of activity, providing the necessary status.

This study investigated the relationship of approval motivation to verbal conditioning under vicarious reinforcement. Fifteen college students completed 20 operant trials in a sentence construction task. They then observed E reinforce a “programmed” confederate who emitted critical responses according to a typical acquisition curve. Fifteen control Ss observed identical confederate behavior with the reinforcements omitted. An additional 15 control Ss did not receive the observation phase. All Ss then were given 40 nonreinforced trials. A significant conditioning effect occurred only for Ss with high need for approval in the vicarious reinforcement condition. Results were related to previous verbal conditioning research.

Colour studies have generated much confusion in art and design education, particularly among students of the discipline in Nigeria. This is due to the complexity of the subject matter itself, wide-range of available materials and a variety of concepts developed in its multi-disciplinarity that is not kept distinct. Therefore, this paper utilizes a qualitative approach that employs the critical, historical, and analytic examination to provide clarification on the constructive and expressive aspects of colour studies. The paper introduces the reader to the pivotal role of colour and its multi-disciplinary interest. Also, it adequately clarifies paradigms and theories in the physical, psychophysical and psychological domains with particular emphasis on areas of practical value to art and design. Moreover, it considers the numeric adaptation of the colour wheel to a set of numbers for harmonic relationship. And it ends with the need for artists and designers to comprehensively grasp the contextual behaviour of colour and develop colour originality through creative construction and effective use in order to successfully express themselves in colour.

This study aimed to investigate the assessment techniques used by a teacher in assessing students’ writing skills, the reason in implementing the techniques, and the students’ responses toward the implementation of the techniques. The collected data in this study included classroom observation that had been held in three times, interview, and written document. The following is the conclusions based on the data analysis. Since formative assessment of writing skill is the main focus of this study, the teacher implemented five writing performance tasks suggested by Brown (2010) namely dicto-comp, picture-cued task, short answer task, guided question and answer, and paragraph construction task. From the teaching process done by the teacher, the assessment tasks were implemented for formative purposes, that is, to monitor students’ progress in comprehending the lesson that is about narrative text. The teacher implemented some assessment tasks in an informal way to monitor students’ ongoing progress without recording the result of the performance, while the other tasks were implemented in a formal way to record students’ progress and to give them an appraisal of their progress and achievement.

This research aims at discussing a possible reading of Gustav Klimt’s painting "Jurisprudenz", from a juridical perspective, in order to explain its potential of meaning regarding the relation between law, sovereign violence and public sphere in peripheral countries like Brazil. In order to do so, this paper is based on three analytical aspects, which are deeply interconnected: The Renaissance’s revival of pagan Antiquity, Freud’s psychoanalysis, and the ambivalent relationship between Law and sovereign violence. Klimt articulates these three dimensions through a) elements of Greek mythology; b) in a Freudian dream-like atmosphere; c) placing the observer in the political role of one of its main characters. Methodologically, this research identifies the references of Klimt at his lifetime and proposes a dialog with the previous interpretations and reflections made by Schorske, Minkkinen, Rodriguez and Manderson, among other authors that dedicated themselves to study the "Jurisprudenz" of Klimt. "Jurisprudenz" presents a visual narrative that allows one to understand the rupture of the cogito self by the desire self (Freud), the exception/sovereign violence of Law (Schmitt, Benjamin, Agamben), and the creative construction of the Law by democratic participation in new forms of public sphere (Habermas).
