Since the advent of modern-day screening collections in the early 2000s, various aspects of our knowledge of good handling practices have continued to evolve. Some early practices, however, continue to prevail due to the absence of defining data that would bust the myths of tradition. The lack of defining data leads to a gap between plate-based screeners, on the one hand, and compound sample handling groups, on the other, with the latter being the default party to blame when an assay goes awry. In this paper, we highlight recommended practices that ensure sample integrity and present myth busting data that can help determine the root cause of an assay gone bad. We show how a strong and collaborative relationship between screening and sample handling groups is the better state that leads to the accomplishment of the common goal of finding breakthrough medicines.

A survey of a small sample of 123 extension workers in Ghana and Ethiopia may have revealed the key issue facing extension ineffectiveness in Africa—the paucity of extension training. Questions on job satisfaction showed that respondents were highly satisfied with: a) an opportunity to work in an area they are trained (N=88, 57%), b) level of education (N=75 (61%), c) enthusiasm towards their work (N=72 (58.5%), and d) opportunity to work with local farmers. However, they were highly dissatisfied with: a) their salaries (N=108 (87.8%), b) the process of decentralization (N=83 (75.6%), c) cooperation from non-governmental agencies (N=87 (70.7%), d) respect from peers in other sectors of government (N=83 (68.0%), e) training in development (N=79 (65.3%), and f) training in communication (N=65 (54.2%). We find their complaints on lack of or limited training in development and communication worthy to note because in the last 40 years extension performance has stressed facilitation among development partners. It can be argued, therefore, that the slow process of decentralization, the friction between extension workers and their NGO counterparts, and their inability to get along with their compatriots in other ministries can be traced to their limited or lack of training in development and communication, otherwise called “Communication for Development” (C4D). We conclude, therefore, that if extension workers are to be effective in their new role as development facilitators not only must their training in agriculture expand to include C4D but, equally significant, extension systems throughout the continent must operate as a profession. Therefore, the authors recommend the establishment of a professional association throughout Africa, under the rubric of “ExtensionAfrica,” which will address the need for extension effectiveness on the continent. We particularly recommend a collaborative relationship with the African Forum for Agricultural Services (AFAAS), which has a mandate for advising on extension services, to make this happen.

SNS provides us with a brand new platform to communicate, interact and share. To better suit the need of scholars to get more authoritative and more satisfactory information about academic research, we construct a SNS scientific paper management platform. In this platform, scholars are divided into different virtual communities accord to their research field and their collaborative relationship with others. Ideas in CF are applied in the procedure of community division which helps us to find the accurate relation structures. At the end of this paper, we use compare the running results of normal platform and SNS to illustrate how useful it is.

The effects of massed versus distributed practice on achievement and test anxiety were investigated using a quasi-experimental design employing 56 college students under two conditions. Test anxiety was assessed using Sarason's four-dimensional Reactions to Tests, while classroom achievement was measured on tests using multiple-choice applications. Experimental subjects were given four Reactions to Tests items and 10-item examinations on a weekly basis for 10 weeks, while control subjects had only a 100-item final examination. Analysis indicated (1) significantly higher final examination performance for the distributed testing condition; (2) a significant reduction in test anxiety between initial sessions and the remainder of the term in the distributed testing condition; (3) no difference in test anxiety between the distributed testing and control conditions when test anxiety was assessed at the end of the term; and (4) nonsignificant correlations between test anxiety dimensions of the Reactions to Tests and achievement in both the control and distributed testing conditions. Results support the contention that relationships between achievement and test anxiety may be more complex than previously thought.

BACKGROUND The role of working alliance is largely unknown for internet-based interventions (IBI), an effective alternative for traditional psychotherapy. OBJECTIVE This study examined the conceptual invariance, trajectory, and outcome associations of working alliance in internet-based interventions incorporating or excluding clinician support via text or video. METHODS One hundred and forty-three adults with subclinical anxiety, stress, and/or depression symptoms were randomized to one of three treatment conditions for 7 weeks. All participants received access to MyCompass, an internet-delivered Cognitive Behavioral Therapy program. Participants in Condition 1 did not receive clinician support. Participants in Condition 2 and 3 received supplemental asynchronous clinician support via text or video respectively. Working alliance was measured weekly. Symptom outcomes were assessed at baseline, post-treatment, and 1-month follow-up. RESULTS We found scalar invariance of working alliance, indicating that working alliance was conceptually invariant across three conditions. Working alliance decreased significantly over time only in the text support group. Stronger baseline level and Faster increases in alliance predicted better outcomes at both post-treatment and follow-up only in the video support group. CONCLUSIONS Working alliance is methodologically comparable with or without clinician support and is generally established at initial sessions of IBI. Better alliance contributed to better outcomes only when clinician support is available via videos. CLINICALTRIAL clinicaltrials.gov ID: NCT05122429

Low vision may affect a person's learning, daily functioning, and psychosocial status. Intervention in the form of vision rehabilitation has enabled many people to successfully meet and overcome the challenges posed by low vision. Part one of this two-part feature presented a four-phase, interdisciplinary model of low vision services that can be applied to any setting. This paper (part two) focuses on methods of assessing low vision, providing clinical services, and establishing an adaptive training and instructional program. The collaborative relationship between the patient/client, low vision physician (optometrist or ophthalmologist), and allied health professional (specifically, the occupational therapist) is described.
