ABSTRACTAlthough studies on job search implicitly presume that relationships between antecedents and indicators of job search are similar for job seekers from different ages, few studies have tested this assumption even though lifespan theories state that individual motives and behaviour significantly change as people age. From this theoretical perspective, we examine how age moderates the relationships between re-employment efficacy, employment commitment and financial hardship, on the one hand, and job search intensity and wage flexibility, on the other hand. Path analysis on a sample of 240 Belgian job seekers who were at the start of an outplacement programme showed that re-employment efficacy relates positively to job search intensity and wage flexibility for older job seekers, while we find negative relationships for younger job seekers. For employment commitment and financial hardship, we do not find any interaction effects with age. Employment commitment relates positively to search intensity, whereas financial hardship relates negatively to wage flexibility, irrespective of age. We discuss implications for theory, practice and future research.

AbstractThis paper exploits big data on online activity from the job exchange of the German Federal Employment Agency and its internal placement-software to generate measures for search activity of employers and job seekers and—as a novel feature—for placement activity of employment agencies. In addition, the average search perimeter in the job seekers’ search profiles can be measured. The data are used to estimate the behaviour of the search and placement activities during the business and labour market cycle and their seasonal patterns. The results show that the search activities of firms and employment agencies are procyclical. By contrast, job seekers’ search intensity shows a countercyclical pattern, at least before the COVID-19 crisis.

IT adoption is more than just technology deployment; it requires careful consideration of social-cognitive factors. With this premise, in this paper, the behavioral intention of job seekers to use online recruitment services in Nepalese context has been examined on the basis of five determinants: Performance expectancy, Effort expectancy, Subjective Norms, Objective Norms and Facilitating conditions. The impact of predictor on outcome variable is examined using multiple regression analysis. The unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT) has been used as basic foundation of the study.

Abstract In career development, a variety of personal, organizational and labor market variables challenge employees and organizations, in particular those in dynamic working environments, such as higher education (HE) institutions. This study examines the association between work history, organizational social capital (OSC) and perceived organizational prestige (POP) as antecedent variables, and perceived employability (PE) and career satisfaction (CS) as outcome variables, as well as the mediating role of organizational identification (OI) in these relations. A sample of 283 workers in Chilean HE institutions filled out an on-line questionnaire, and hypotheses were tested using a mediation model. Results indicated a significant mediation effect of OI, abt = 0.363, 95% CI [0.181, 0.576] abt/c = 31.98%, to explain the relationship between internal perceived employability (IPE) and its predictor variables POP, abpo = 0.102, 95% CI [0.056, 0.160], abpo/c = 9.01%, and OSC, abcsoc = 0.101, 95% CI [0.053, 0.183, abcsoc/c = 8.89%. Promoting a positive image of the organization and its social capital, strengthened by OI, emerge as strategies for HR management oriented toward workers’ career development, with consequent implications for commitment, intention to leave and ultimately for organizational results. The study provides a deeper understanding of the complexity of careers and explains the importance of identification with the organization when the impact of organizational attributes on one’s career is analyzed.

Financial hardship is a phenomenon which mediates many other factors in life regardless of age group one of many is well-being. Well-being is a multi-disciplinary term. This paper will investigate existing literature on the effect of financial hardship on well-being using systematic review to minimize the biases. The data will be systematically searched with following databases: Wiley-online library, Google scholar, JSTOR, Tandfonline and Emerald. The present study is a systematic review of English language research of 2010 to 2020 research papers on financial hardship and well-being. The databases used in the research are Wiley Online Library, Google Scholar with keywords financial hardship, financial pressure, financial challenges, stress, wellbeing, anxiety, psychological well-being. 81 studies were excluded and 12 studies were selected after reviewing the title and abstract of 93 studies based on the PRISMA. The inclusion and exclusion criteria allow studies of 2010 to 2021 to be considered. Fewer data was present in the subject of wellbeing and financial stress. However, the results show impact of both variables. Financial pressure leads to poor wellbeing and other factors such as lack of social support, unhealthy family environment and dept can robust the impact. The research makes a unique new contribution in research, lending support for policy, academic theory, new contributions to current literature not found elsewhere, especially mental health management policy.

Background: This article studies the effect of PIPOL, an integrated program of active labor policies launched by the Friuli Venezia Giulia, an Italian region, in 2014. Objectives: To understand the impact of training in a classroom setting (off-the-job) and work-related training (on-the-job) on employment integration of benefit recipients. Research design: We adopt a counterfactual approach by comparing a target group (treated) against a control group (19,899) extracted by means of propensity score matching and Mahalanobis distance matching among subjects who, while registered in the program over the years 2014–2016, had never benefited from it. The selection of about 7,175 recipients in the program and in each type of intervention was random. Subjects: About 30,000 job seekers made up of 3,911 interns, 2,945 trainees, and 319 recipients of training and internship within PIPOL. Target: Young people, Not in Education Employment or Trainings, and over 30s. Measures: We look at different outcomes: employment tout court and employment in open-ended contracts. Results: The overall net impact of PIPOL was equal to +5 pp on average. Specifically, impact results were classroom training none, internship sizable (+14.1 pp), and training combined with an internship, quite sizable (+9.6 pp). Furthermore, training to gain a qualification was the most effective (+6.4 pp) among those receiving combined training and internship. Internship also increased the chance to find permanent employment (+3 pp). Among recipients, women, immigrants, and low-skilled recipients registered the most sizable impact on finding employment and training in manufacturing and construction was more effective than elsewhere. Conclusions: Italian young people have ever-increasing academic attainment but, due to the sequential nature of the education system, little work-related competences. This could explain the greater success of internships on classroom training.
