- We examined the consequences of a visualization pattern often chosen by web sites which show textual information within the web pages and the related iconic information within pop-up windows. The information visualization in pop-up windows aims to integrate text and pictures but makes difficult the analysis of both information resources. We conducted an experiment in which 80 participants read on a computer screen a text with embedded graphs either near (to the related textual information) or far (from it), plus graphs were integrated in the text or within pop-up windows. The reading behaviour of participants was observed to establish who, among them, examined the graphs and who did not. The recall for textual and iconic information was measured using a recall questionnaire. Our pattern of data shows a student's tendency to ignore graphs, in particular when they are visualized in pop-up windows. These results are confirmed by interviews to undergraduate students who analyzed the same materials using thinking aloud method.

Information Visualization is a field of computer graphics which aims to present information graphically, allowing users to better understand a great amount of information. It also allows identifying standards, or even detecting new information which, at first, was not possible to be perceived due to its complex representation. This study briefly describes this field and presents a tool for visual data mining executed on the web, through of the Parallel Coordinates technique, that allow users to analyze information structured in a master/detail format. Other advantage of the tool is its capacity of accepting data from several systems exported by the user in the XML format. A case study is demonstrated in order to exemplify the resources of the tool.

Elementary students use the Web to find information, but can encounter problems with keyword searching. An alternative is to choose terms from a taxonomy (subject directory), but students may then encounter problems in locating a term within the taxonomy. This paper reports on a comparative analysis of a conventional, hierarchically displayed taxonomy with a display of the same taxonomy using information visualization techniques. The evaluations were undertaken by students from grade-six (11 to 12 years’ old) and are part of a larger study on the application of information visualization techniques to interfaces targeted at children.

The canvas in the HTML5 provides very powerful ability to realize complex graphics and image operations. It can be used for developing information application about graphics such as chart module, scientific computing visualization, drawing software, animation system and information visualization and so on. It will play an important role in the web game for PC or mobile platform because the HTML5 has the platform-independent feature. In this paper a system of graphics algorithm presentation is provided and it uses the prototype object and image data structure of canvas rendering context 2D model to define the custom function to implement the graphics algorithm. It demonstrates the realization process of the principle of graphics algorithms and it shows that the canvas has great flexibility and scalability characteristics.
