The purpose of this chapter is to describe educational barriers confronting incarcerated college students in the age of digitalization. This chapter will also explore how to mitigate barriers to developing 21st century competencies. Many incarcerated college students are academically disenfranchised due to the lack of access to essential modern learning modalities for traditional college students. Failure to provide incarcerated students with adequate 21st century competencies may impede their successful reintegration into society.

The 21st century is the one in which knowledge innovation promotes economic development. Our country and society earnestly need a lot of talents who have the abilities of creation, innovation and pioneering. In order to meet the challenge of the times, it is highly necessary for colleges and universities to carry out the education to create, innovate and pioneer. Higher education should undertake the mission of training and improving college students’ such abilities so as to make good preparations for their future. In this paper, combined with the above situation, the authors analyze the characteristics of creating, innovating and pioneering talents, probe into the main points of the creative, innovative and pioneering education and put forward the concrete measures to foster such talents.

Music is an indispensable artistic existence in College education. The cultivation of college students has become a problem that colleges and universities must face. Readiness for self-directed learning (SDRLS) is a necessary skill for 21st-century learners. Learners are expected to be responsible for their own learning. However, to what extend Malaysian students are ready to facilitate their own learning or are they still being spoon-fed?  This study was intended to assess SDLRS among college students. It utilized a survey method research design. There were 136 diploma students participated in this study. The finding revealed that respondents' levels of SDRLS were high. There was significant difference between SDRLS and gender but no significant differences between academic achievement and hometown.
