A phosphorictriamide scaffold, [(NHAQ)3PO] (TAQP), which has an electron-rich aminoquinoline (AQ) chromophore, is shown to exhibit a ratiometric turn-on response for picric acid (PA) at low concentration via a proton-transfer pathway.
