The morphological differences of chitosan (CS) in the hydroxyapatite (HA)/CS nanocomposites were investigated in detailed, which were prepared via in situ hydrothermal precipitation. The results show that the obtained nanocomposites have excellent crystallinity and the crystal has excellent ordered structure, which is important to the composites performances in the biomedical application. Moreover, the CS arrangement and crystallinity in the composites greatly depend on the hydrothermal temperature and the pH value of precipitating agent. The temperature ranging from 373 to 413K and pH value of precipitating agent ranging from 12 to 14 were favorable to the crystallization and oriented growth of CS molecules in the composites. The CS crystals with better arrangement are assembled in the order of layer-by-layer in these composites.

An economical and easily movable molecular-beam epitaxy (MBE) apparatus which prepares magnetic ultrathin films and superlattices with atomically well controlled interfaces has been designed and constructed. Cleaning and characterization of substrates, sample deposition in a layer-by-layer fashion, and characterization of samples both during and after growth can be carried out in a single ultrahigh vacuum (UHV) chamber. This MBE apparatus is combined with UHV high-field magneto-optical instruments for in situ soft X-ray magnetic circular dichroism experiments on two-dimensional magnetic systems.

In this paper, a method of carbon nanotube coated with the dendrimer encapsulated platinum nanoparticles(Pt-DENs/CNTs) was introduced, and the properties of enzyme electrode modified by the Pt-DENs/CNTs were investigated. The formation of the self-assembled (GOx/Pt-DENs)n/CNTs construction was expiored by high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM). And the results indicated that the uniform growth of the layer-by-layer nanostructures onto carboxyl-functionalized CNTs. The electrochemical properties of the enzyme anode modified by (GOx/Pt-DENs)n/CNTs, which act as biofuel cell anode, was studied by electrochemica measurements. Owing to its nanostructure, the (GOx/Pt-DENs)n/CNTs heterostructures have a large specific area, a high surface active center, good conductivity and macro tunnel effect, therefore the electrode modified by (GOx/Pt-DENs)n/CNTs has series of attractive electrochemical characteristics so as to enhance biofuel cell’s function.

ABSTRACTWe review here the recent characterization of vacuum deposited monolayer and multilayer thin films of two different perylenetetracarboxylic-dianydride-bisimides (Cn-PTCDI; n =4,5), quinacridone, and two new bis-(N-alkyl)-quinacridone dyes (DIQA and DEHQA) on single crystal alkali halides using a combination of in situ luminescence spectroscopies and ex situ tapping mode AFM. Flat lying monolayer structures are indicated for PTCDA on the (100) faces of NaCl, KCl and KBr, for C4-PTCDI on KCl, for C5-PTCDI on both KCl and KBr and for DIQA on both KCl and KBr. Coherent thin films, exhibiting layer-by-layer growth can be achieved for PTCDA on all substrates, for C4-PTCDI on KCl and for DIQA on both KBr and KCl. Both C4-PTCDI and DIQA appear to fulfill the requirements for dyes which exhibit layered growth with the molecular plane inclined at steep angles to the surface normal.
