Polycrystalline α-HgI2 films have been grown through combining vertical deposition method with hot wall vapor phase deposition (HWPVD) method. The influence of the α-HgI2 seed layers on the structural and electrical properties of the polycrystalline α-HgI2 films was investigated. It is found that the α-HgI2 seed layers play an important role in reducing the grain sizes, increasing the density improving the crystallographic orientation and electrical properties of the polycrystalline α-HgI2 films.

The silica colloidal crystal multilayers were deposited from ethanol suspensions with different particle concentrations by vertical deposition method. The microstructures and thicknesses of silica colloidal multilayers were characterized by scanning electron micrography. The thicknesses of colloidal crystal multilayers increased with the particle concentration increasing within a certain range of particles concentrations. When the particle concentration exceeded 2.48wt%, the thicknesses of colloidal crystal multilayers didn’t increased with the concentration increasing. Colloidal crystal multilayers with few defects could be deposited from the suspensions with the particle concentration 2.48wt%. The optical properties of the silica colloidal multilayers were investigated by a UV-Vis scanning spectrophotometer in normal incidence. They corresponded well to the microstructure obtained by SEM images.

The Langmuir–Blodgett (LB) films of Poly (N-vinylcarbazole) (PVK) Polymers and its hybrid films with arachidic acid (AA) and C 60 were prepared by a vertical deposition method. Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) and UV-Vis absorption spectroscopy were used to investigate the assembly of PVK/AA and PVK/ C 60/AA LB films. It was found that the C 60 molecules could be aggregated into smaller particles on the base of PVK polymers. The photoluminescence (PL) of PVK was dramatically quenched resulting from the electron transfer from PVK to C 60 in their composite films.
