A series of basic esters of 3,4,5-trimethoxybenzoic acid was obtained from the reaction of 2-chloroethyl and 3-chloropropyl 3,4,5-trimethoxybenzoate with secondary amines including 1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-β-carboline. The latter compound was prepared by the lithium aluminum hydride reduction of 1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-1-oxo-β-carboline.
