There are two possibilities how to follow equilibria of organic compounds established in aqueous solutions using polarography: for very fast reactions, information can be obtained from shifts of half-wave potentials. For slowly established equilibria, the changes in the limiting current are followed. In both cases variation of the half-wave potentials or limiting currents with concentration of a reactant, present in excess, is followed. The types of reactions, which had been followed in this way, are as follows: hydration–dehydration equilibria, additions of hydroxide ion to carbonyl and nitroso compounds, the role of slowly established acid–base equilibria involving C-acids; further also reactions involving the addition of ammonia, primary amines, hydroxylamine, and hydrazine to carbonyl compounds.

Selected problems concerning volatile organic compounds emission reduction from thick-veneer pine plywood. The paper presents results of research conducted on volatile organic compounds emissions, considering two different production parameter sets for thick-veneer pine plywood, manufactured in industrial conditions. Both types of plywood were produced from raw wood material, which was hydrothermally treated under two different variants of parameters (I – 47˚C, 19 h; II – 55˚C, 24 h). Based on the results it was stated that severe hydrothermal treatment of raw wood material (longer soaking time, higher temperature) had impact on reduction of plywood VOC emission rates. Main VOCs emitted from pine plywood were monoterpenes and carbonyl compounds. Of the monoterpenes, α-pinene and 3-carene had the highest emission. Of the carbonyl group of compounds, the highest emission had hexanal and caproic acid.

Abstract2, 4-ionene supported permanganate is easily prepared by treatment of 2, 4-ionene with an aqueous solution of potassium permanganate. This reagent could be used as a stable, mild and efficient oxidizing agent to produce carbonyl compounds from hydroxyl compounds or arenes, and disulfides from thiols in either heterogonous or solvent free conditions. In addition, aromatization of different types of 2-arylimidazolines and 2-alkylimidazolines to corresponding imidazoles was achieved in good yields in acetonitrile at room temperature.

Mixtures of small quantities of carbonyl compounds are presents in foods, concerning sensorial qualities. The inferior carbonyl compounds (C2-C4, boiling point <100°C) – mono and dicarbonyl – can be identified and measured their concentrations, after a separation by distillation on the water bath. They are transferred in a strongly acid solution of 2.4-dinitrophenylhidrazine (2.4-DNPH), generating a mixture of insoluble 2.4-dinitrophenylhidrazones (2.4-DNPH-ones). The 2.4-DNPH-ones are organic compounds with weak polarity, solids, crystallized, yellows and water insoluble, soluble in organic solvents. The mixture of 2.4dinitrophenylhidrazones may be separated by liquid chromatography, using the reverse phase mechanism [1-3]. This paper contains experimental and theoretical considerations to the means of separation through liquid chromatography of two synthetically and a natural mixtures that contain 2.4-DNPH-ones provided by inferior carbonyl compounds; to obtain conclude results, in the synthetically mixtures was introduce and 2.4-DNPH-ones provided by carbonyl compounds having three (acetone and propanal) and four (isobutyl aldehyde) atoms of carbon.
