A deep understanding of the common patterns of bug-fixing changes is useful in several ways: (a) such knowledge can help developers in proactively avoiding coding patterns that lead to bugs and (b) bug-fixing patterns are exploited in devising techniques for automatic bug localization and program repair. This work includes an in-depth quantitative and qualitative analysis over 4,653 buggy revisions of five software systems. Our study identifies 38 bug-fixing edit patterns and discovers 37 new patterns of nested code structures, which frequently host the bug-fixing edits. While some of the edit patterns were reported in earlier studies, these nesting patterns are new and were never targeted before.

Purpose. The article considers methodological problems of mono-verbal ideographic dictionary as a separate lexicographic set of dialectal usus, built on the onomasiological principle, on the semantic relations of words from the concept to its lexical counterparts. By typology, ideographic and explanatory dictionaries are complementary, which determines the equipolent connection of the ideographic dictionary with the thesaurus of a separate language system. Methods. The monophonic ideographic dictionary proposed by the author offers a methodology for developing an ideographic dictionary of speech on a purely linguistic basis, in the direction “from the core to the periphery”, because the lexical structure of the idiom, in contrast to the common language, is narrowly accessible for speakers of the literary idiom and widely available for scientific interpretation of the lexicon of speech, and given the completeness of the presentation allows the use of quantitative methods. They ensure the objectivity of the obtained results and significantly reduce the time for their receipt and processing, which in the long run will provide objective results for further qualitative (qualitative) analysis – a monographic description of the language system of speech. Results. Monographic ideographic dictionary is a new type of dictionary – linguistic dialectological ideographic dictionary of scientific and linguodidactical purpose. Methodologically, its conclusion involves the stratification of vocabulary by functional, syntagmatic, paradigmatic and epidigmatic system parameters. Conclusions. Improving the method of parametric analysis for a one-word ideographic dictionary involves in the process of compiling the author of the “Ideographic Dictionary of the dialect of Pishchany Brid village of Dobrovelychkivsky district of Kirovohrad region” conducting various typological studies: continuing to collect natural dialect material, representation of the place of this lexical unit in its structure, etc., as well as ideographic lexicographic parameterization for component analysis of dialectal vocabulary, which will extrapolate the spoken material, and in the future will serve to solve a number of theoretical and practical problems of linguistics, and research will enter the linguistic picture of the world and give objective scientific results.Key words: dialectology, lexicography, monoidiom research, ideographic method, quantitative methods, qualitative analysis of vocabulary.

AbstractEarly childhood intervention in autism has over three decades of empirically validated study, but has very limited qualitative analysis. There is a wealth of research in this field, but it remains very much within a solely positivist paradigm and researchers are constantly striving to prove that their method is the most effective In this paper I explore the impact of this paradigm on our approach to intervention, and our understanding of what it means to be autistic. I will look at some of the common themes in early intervention research across a range of approaches, and will state the case for a more ethical methodology when researching young children with autism. I will argue against the medicalization of a disorder that in its nature cannot be defined as a 'medical truth', and subsequently state the case for moving forward into a more qualitative, critical disability paradigm in this field.

This article discusses the similarities in developing self-reliance by the two main characters in two novels, Hemingway’s The Old Man and the Sea (i.e., Santiago) and Defoe’s Robinson Crusoe (i.e., Robinson Crusoe). Qualitative analysis with the frame of dynamic structuralism theory of Jan Mukarovsky discovered that both protagonist characters, Santiago and Crusoe, are doing several things as their ways to rebuild and develop their self-reliance in coping with several obstacles. To develop his self-reliance, Santiago recollects his past experiences, identifies himself as a powerful figure, and recognizes certain factors supporting his struggle, while Crusoe performs certain efforts to extend his survival, and recognizes God’s power in his life.  Despite their different ways to build self-reliance, the two figures both show optimism to survive their odd and unfortunate yet valuable experience. Reflecting on Santiago and Crusoe’s life experiences, self-reliance is a pivotal attribute for ones’ survival and success and serves as a mental asset to face the common under-pressured life.

Purpose: The aim of the present study was to investigate the diagnostic power of RGCL in the macula quantitatively and qualitatively by using a conventional and extended elliptic grid with deviation maps.Subjects and Methods: Thickness of RGCL was measured using SPECTRALIS® OCT (Heidelberg Engineering, Heidelberg, Germany) in 150 eyes of 150 subjects of the Erlangen Glaucoma Registry (EGR; NTC00494923): 26 ocular hypertension (OHT), 39 pre-perimetric open-angle glaucoma (pre-OAG), 19 normal tension glaucoma (NTG), 34 primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG), 16 secondary open-angle glaucoma (SOAG), and 16 controls. Analysis of RGCL was done quantitatively (global value, GV) and qualitatively (qualitative total value, QTV) by using a color-coded point score for data of the common elliptic macular grid of deviation maps. Furthermore, qualitative analysis of RGCL was done for an extended elliptic macula grid (extended qualitative total value, eQTV). Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were calculated for the conventional and the enlarged macular grid for all subjects' groups. Results: GV of RGCL thickness differed significantly between pre-OAG (p < 0.05), NTG (p < 0.001), POAG (p < 0.001), SOAG (p < 0.001), yet not OHT (p > 0.05) and controls, respectively. Quantitative ROC analysis of GV showed AUC of 0.965 (SOAG), 0.942 (POAG), 0.916 (NTG), 0.772 (pre-OAG), and 0.526 (OHT). QTV differed significantly between pre-POAG (p < 0.05), NTG (p < 0.001), POAG (p < 0.001), SOAG (p < 0.001), yet not OHT (p > 0.05) and controls, respectively. Qualitative ROC analysis of QTV showed AUCs of 0.908 (NTG) 0.914 (POAG), 0.930 (SOAG), 0.734 (pre-POAG), and 0.519 (OHT). Implementation of eQTV yielded even higher AUCs for NTG (0.919), POAG (0.969), and SOAG (0.973) compared to GV. Similar AUCs of eQTV and GV were observed for OHT (0.514) and pre-OAG (0.770).Conclusion: The results of the present study showed that quantitative and qualitative analysis of RGCL thickness yielded similar diagnostic impacts compared to RNFL. Qualitative analysis might be a quick and easy useable tool for clinical all-day life. The present data suggest that analysis of an extended macula region might improve its diagnostic impact.

The paper concerns sexual orientation of transgender people and expert discourse strategies of normativisation of sexuality of the mentioned group of people. The paper is based on qualitative analysis of transgender people’s statements concerning their sexual orientation. Basing on the assumptions of social constructionism, author of the paper tries to demonstrate that the common manner of presenting sex, gender and sexuality referring to the binary categories of description and classification (man/woman, heterosexuality/homosexuality, cisgenderism/transgenderism, etc.) is a construct of discourse based on the essentialist concept of sex, gender and sexuality. In accordance to the concept of the tool of power-knowledge (Foucault), this discourse legitimizes a definite idea of social order and supports definite strategies of normativization.
