We report the synthesis and characterization of a new self-assembled VO2-L metallogel. Multi-responsive properties of the gel were also studied and can be used for sensing OH− anions. Bromoperoxidase-like activity of VO2-L metallogel for oxidative bromination reaction was also reported.

A building block approach was used to design a modular synthetic route for the preparation of novel glycerolipids with phenolic and polyphenolic headgroups. Based on this scheme, it is possible to vary the substitution pattern of the headgroup, the stereochemistry of the backbone, and the length of the sidechains. Five glycerolipids with different headgroups and identical backbone stereochemistry and chain length have been prepared.Key words: glycerolipid, polyphenol, hydrogen bonding, lipid-protein interaction, self-adhering.

We report the synthesis and characterization of a novel 4-(dimethylamino)pyridinium-substituted η3-cycloheptatrienide–Pd complex which is free of halide ligands. Diacetonitrile{η3-[4-(dimethylamino)pyridinium-1-yl]cycloheptatrienido}palladium(II) bis(tetrafluoroborate), [Pd(C2H3N)2(C14H16N2)](BF4)2, was prepared by the exchange of two bromide ligands for noncoordinating anions, which results in the empty coordination sites being occupied by acetonitrile ligands. As described previously, exchange of only one bromide leads to a dimeric complex, di-μ-bromido-bis({η3-[4-(dimethylamino)pyridinium-1-yl]cycloheptatrienido}palladium(II)) bis(tetrafluoroborate) acetonitrile disolvate, [Pd2Br2(C14H16N2)2](BF4)2·2CH3CN, with bridging bromide ligands, and the crystal structure of this compound is also reported here. The structures of the cycloheptatrienide ligands of both complexes are analogous to the dibromide derivative, showing the allyl bond in the β-position with respect to the pyridinium substituent. This indicates that, unlike a previous interpretation, the main reason for the formation of the β-isomer cannot be internal hydrogen bonding between the cationic substituents and bromide ligands.

ABSTRACTColloidal sol-gel is a common method used for the preparation of stable and homogeneous nanoparticulate sols. In this work, TiO2 and Er3+ doped-TiO2 sols (1, 2 and 3 mole % Er3+) have been prepared. The peptization time, viscosity and isoelectric point increase at higher Er3+ concentration indicating that erbium (III) delays the peptization process, increases the viscosity and adsorbs onto the surface of the TiO2 nanoparticles. When the sols of TiO2 are doped with Er3+ lower values of the band gap are obtained. After drying, in all cases, anatase was obtained as major phase although traces of brookite are also detected. The microstructure was observed by TEM and shows direct evidence that the xerogels are polycrystalline.
