In this paper the anti-bacterial and the anti-corrosion effect of two different ionic liquids, namely 1-(2-hydroxyethyl)-3-methylimidazolinium chloride ([OH-EMIm]Cl) and 1-ethyl-3-methyleimidazolinium chloride ([EMIm]Cl) was demonstrated. The results revealed that the corrosion inhibition influence of the ionic liquid [OH-EMIm]Cl is higher than that of the ionic liquid [EMIm]Cl. Furthermore, the ionic liquid [OH-EMIm]Cl showed better biocidal influence compared with the ionic liquid [EMIm]Cl. This indicates the synergistic effect due to the incorporation of the hydroxyl group into the side chain of the imidazolium cation leading to enhanced antibacterial and anticorrosion effect.

Aluminum pigments were encapsulated by hydrolysis and condensation of tetraethoxysilane (TEOS) and methyltriethoxysilane (MTES). The influences of solvents and ratio of MTES/TEOS on corrosion inhibition performance were studied. The FTIR, XPS and SEM analysis showed that both TEOS and MTES hydrolyzed and condensed at the same time to form a compact and thin sol-gel layer on the surface of aluminum pigments. Aluminum pigments encapsulated by MTES and TEOS, which can hardly generate H2 in acid media of pH=1 within 12h, show greatly excellent corrosion resistance than that only by TEOS or by MTES, due to the formation of a compact and thin hybrid film to protect aluminum particles from corrosive media.

The present study was undertaken to find out the phytochemicals present in Bougainvillea glabra bracts extract and to compare the corrosion inhibition efficiency between B.glabra Pink, Orange and White coloured bract extract on mild steel in 1N HCl. Phyto chemical analysis showed the presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, phenolic compounds and tannins in the extract as confirmed by implying different qualitative tests specified for these phytochemical. Corrosion rate, inhibition efficiency, FTIR analysis was determined. The corrosion of mild steel in 1N HCl acid media was significantly reduced upon the additions of BG bract extracts. The inhibition efficiency increased with the increasing concentration of the inhibitor. Maximum inhibition efficiency was observed at an optimum concentration of 2 % v/v.
